My cable ISP just switched from DOCSIS 3.0 to DOCSIS 3.1.
My Modem (SB8200) has two ethernet ports which support link Aggregation.
Theoretically I only get 1gbps, however it might be worth a shot to see what happens if I try link aggregation.
I’m currently running DD-WRT v3.0-r44406 std (09/18/20) on my ProtectLi FW6A.
This might be worth a shot, but I don’t know the first thing about how I might set this up. I’m throwing this thread up here to let it marinate, and will educate myself in the meantime:

I have not seen the bonding config that I am aware of on any of my devices in the past 3 years. I have an R7800, an R9000, and R7000P on the upper end of the spectrum here locally to check, but I do not think it's there anymore?
My understanding is I have to bridge the WAN with one of the other ethernet ports on my router. _________________ Google is Spyware
For the bonding config to be visible? I would have to check into it pretty deeply, because if this were truly still available and possible with DD-WRT, I could put it to use. I think the one thing that has been lacking for a while is bonding / dual WAN capability from the webUI in the past (?).

It is, but I forget if you would normally bridge a port with WAN to bond them (for dual wan). If so, this functionality would be great if it is still present (I don't think it is?).
I do not know. Further internet searching says link aggregation is dependent on the hardware, so any software implementation would only be possible if the hardware supports it.
I shot a message to ProtectLi to see if the intel 6-port device they installed supports link aggregation.

Did anyone ever get this to work? I have the SB8200. I only recently was able to get the 1 GBPS service in my area. I am getting about 950 mbps wired and a little over 900 wireless with my GL.iNET Flint 2 as an access point connected to my X86-64 rig. I am curious if I can get any more out of it with the link aggregation. I recently installed a Realtek 8125 4 port card so I get 2.5 gbps between my X86 rig and the Flint 2. So I want to find out if I can get more through the WAN using aggregation. I don't really need it but why not try to get the most out of it if there is more there.

The SB8200 I own one of those and mine just recently was giving me issues. After beating on it for a few years downloading TB's of data almost every month with it. So I went and bought another modem an Arris s33v2 which has a 1Gbp port and a 2.5Gbps port. Got mine for $35 on marketplace for something that is $200+. I just use the 2.5Gbps port from the modem into the 6 port realtek 2.5Gbps. It did connect at 2.5Gbps but my internet has been really all over the place so I can't tell if it's over provision at 1200 or 1300 yet. It's an ISP issue now. I would say it's time to purchase a modem with the 2.5Gbps port and sell your current modem. Much easier to configure too.

I thought about that but I am likely moving later this year and I am not sure what my internet options will be where I will be moving to in the Houston area. If I have a fiber option, I will be getting that instead of cable so I hate to invest in anything new until I find out. I have been researching link aggregation issue and think it may be possible using Openwrt. I have never used the X86 version of Openwrt but have used it off an on over the years in various wireless routers so I am very familiar with it. The next time my wife goes out of town I am going to play with using Openwrt to see if it will work. Heck it would be easy to just install it on a thumb drive and if I can't get it to work just switch drives to go back to DDWRT. Since we only use streaming options for television, my wife is not very happy if I mess up the internet playing around hence why I am waiting for her to go out of town. I was able to get link aggregation going using OpenWRT on my X86-64 rig and my SB8200 cable modem. I am still working with it but it is working fine so far. i tested now bonding on a 6.12 kernel based devices (most recent on x64/x86 too)
and what can i say. it works. i attached 2 interfaces with balance-rr algorithm (you need to check which one you need)
bond0 was created with 2 interfaces as slaves
and bond0 can now be used in any way you want
just one issue i found was that i missed to include the bond interfaces in the interface selection and i should add the feature to create multiple bonds in future _________________ "So you tried to use the computer and it started smoking?
