Flashrouter purchase, maybe 2yr ago, suddenly No VPN service
It's at r49418 (7/4/22) "as shipped".
I've done this to it Many times in the past;
192.168.11.1
Administration
Commands
Populate the Command field from the Startup with "Edit" and "Run Commands" returns "Installation Successful"
But not now, the button Run seems to work, comes back Processing please wait, but no successful installation. Numerous Reboots, Soft and Hard, nothing changes.
OK so what stands out to me is that after a reboot I'm never asked to sign back in though, it's like it never really did a through reboot (the time up does reset). I left it unplugged for 1/2 the day ~ hehe
So, is there a way to manually Log Out? Would I maybe get a fresh start (unconfused) if I could? Because it just seems to be in a confused state right now...
The Run Commands feature has NEVER been reliable. I'm not even sure how it's implemented. It appears to be a console interface of some kind w/ a lot of odd behavior.
That's why I recommend users (or even third-parties like FlashRouters) avoid it. It's far more reliable and predictable to use ssh (my preference), or at worst telnet, and simply copy/paste your commands/scripts into the terminal window.
Undoubtably FlashRouters is using the Run Commands feature because they're assuming the user is so naive as to NOT know what ssh is, let alone how to configure it. The Run Commands feature is embedded in the GUI, so in theory, it should work for everyone, even the most novice of users. But as I said, it has its own problems and is best avoided.
So Ultimately,,, the reason is that Flashrouter has prevented this from working as it did. In those commands there is a web address to flashrouter that is now 404
Their answer to me is "you could Buy another one of our routers" (not bloody likely...) OR follow our Help Page on how 2 set it up yourself with IPVanish and OpenVPN (and, of course, something I could have always done in the first place but, opted to pay Them to give me an integrated system that was going to work smoothly)
I hope I'm on the mailing list for the Class Action!
So does this mean for me that there IS not alternative set of commands, without a supporting webpage that's no longer available, that I could replace in that field and have everything go back to as it was?

You're going to just have to remove their "app" from DD-WRT and upgrade to a current release and use the guides in the Advanced Networking forum with whatever VPN provider you choose, most likely. I don't know what the reasoning is for their removal of DD-WRT support other than they refused to patch their app to match the webUI patches, etc.
The real culprit here is the dearth of support for AX (and beyond) routers among most third-party firmware. NOT just DD-WRT. Notice FlashRouters offering have come down overwhelmingly to ASUS routers (16 of 19). And that's primarily due to Merlin, which is a derivative of the OEM firmware, NOT a full replacement (I assume the rest are OpenWRT, but not really sure; they aren't specific in the advertising). So AX/BE compatibility is just less of an issue w/ ASUS.

The only easy way to support the routers is to use the OEM internals to some degree. That completely clobbers the whole point of DD- and OpenWRT. AsusWRT-Merlin is just basically semi-patched OEM firmware, which still uses proprietary everything and older versions of certain packages. I doubt he's bumped past busybox 1.25.x. Most OEM firmware outside of AsusWRT is based on older OpenWRT releases anymore. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"
