I bought a couple of these off Woot when they hit $15 to mess with. I've had some issues with my current router (ASUS AX92U on stock firmware) and thought maybe switching to DD-WRT on one of these would give me more control and help me sort it out.
On the MX4300 I went from stock firmware to r58464, then updated to r58531, and also tried the newest firmware r58568. I know this is a W.I.P. router and that might be the issue, but thought I'd ask anyway. I'm trying to set up some site blocking for specific IPs (my kids devices) on my network but the filtering doesn't seem to work at all on this router. A friend tried the firmware on a VM and it worked great for him, so I have to imagine it's the router that's the issue. Is this a bug, did I miss something, or is this just not fully implemented yet on this router?
Edit: I had an ASUS RT-AC66U-B1 that I've been using as a repeater, and noticed that had a DD-WRT build as well. Being an older router I thought that might work. I worked on getting all my statics and NAT rules set up yesterday, and when I installed it in my network this morning it worked exactly how I expected it to. Access Restrictions are working fine, and I'm using the MX4300 as an access point. Hopefully at some point the MX4300 firmware gets to a point where I can remove this and just have a single device, but I guess this works for now. |
