So it will not be possible to update to dd-wrt from Openwrt firmware menu now ?
I wouldn't dare to do that, due to a severe incompatibility it will produce a nice brick in the wall...mean your router will be bricked
If going to OpenWRT than you'd need to TFTP (only) either stock firmware or factory DDWRT...
Ive never tried to move form OpenWRT to DDWRT via OpenWRT web interface and believe it wont let you anyway...TFTP is the best firmware update option by far...well regarding Netgear routers... _________________ Atheros

I also saw this ticket (#7667 new r52054 Netgear XR500), so not sure if it would be wise to try that build for initial flash or not. Of course, bad block handling was initially provided in 52095. There was never any clarification of the problem in the ticket.

i just randomly picked this version... https://ftp.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2022/02-11-2022-r48322/netgear-xr500/ where firmware is about the same size like OpenWRT...well... almost, but if successful, than you can move to the recent web update file of 58070 as, like KP-69 said.. recent versions have bad blocks avoidance code..kind of.. _________________ Atheros

I have instal DD-WRT v3.0-r48322 without any problem, I make a factory reset from the menu after that.
And i use da-wrt-webupgrade.bin from /dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2024/08-19-2024-r58070/netgear-xr500 and after a few seconds it blinks in all ports again.

sad but true, it seams the code for bad block avoidance is not that efficient in your case...
nothing could be done...you either use Duma OS or OpenWRT or that old DDWRT build (not recommended)..
XR500 are famous with badbolcks in the flash ram lots of threads on the subject... _________________ Atheros
