Hi,
I have two routers (one of them is dd-wrt) which are connected via an unmanaged switch which is connected to other devices.
both routers have wan access and I can run code on both routers.
I've read that dual WAN is configured using VLANs which are specified by physical ethernet port on the router, in my case there is no direct connection to a physical ethernet port because of the switch.

Is it possible to setup dual WAN network by configuring the second router's MAC address as "virtual ethernet port" or by any other way?

Thanks.

You cannot Create VLAN on an unmanaged switch.

See this Tutorial for creating a second WAN

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Dual_WAN

You have not stated your router model.

x2 for using a managed switch between routers and LAN if they are sharing the same subnet or not. Otherwise, the Wiki is very dated and no longer applies for configuration of Dual WAN on DD-WRT:

Sticky: VLAN configuration via GUI - 2 CPU ports (R7800, EA8500 etc)

Sticky: VLAN configuration via GUI - 1 CPU port

Thanks for your reply.
I'm new to VLANs so i hope you can help me understand more.
If replace the unmanaged switch with a managed switch and configure one of the ports (the one which the second wan router is connected to) to a different VLAN, can the DD-WRT "agree" with the managed switch about the configured VLAN so it will be possible for all the devices connected to both the DD-WRT and the switch to hop from one internet wan access to another?

I'm asking that because both dd-wrt and the managed switch can each configure VLANs, so how they are "knowing" or "agreeing" with each other regarding to the VLAN configuration?

Can I use second dd-wrt router instead of a managed switch?

Thanks.

What is on the Internet side of the Routers? Is it modems?
Do you want fail over or aggregated bandwidth?

Yes, you can have a Tagged Trunk that forwards several VLANS between the EA6900 and a Managed Switch.

Let me summarize what is "dual WAN" for third-party firmwares: It means your router actually has an internal managed swith, and in that way you can go to the VLAN settings on your dd-wrt router and unselect one port from the LAN VLAN, create a new VLAN (your second WAN), and move that port there (remembering to add the CPU as well). The Wiki explains that in detail (altough there has been a few changes on details). Note: some very old routers don't support this, some routers support this via GUI, some routers require to do this via CLI. In some cases, the wiki of your particular router model explains the procedure.

I want failover,
regarding the internet side, dd-wrt is connected to a modem via the WAN port, and Router 2 has cellular modem built-in.

Thanks, feliciano.
So in my case I can use the dd-wrt router instead of a managed switch, correct?

Move Router 2 to a LAN Port of EA6900. Set the port to VLAN3. You dont have to do anything with the switch.

Can't move Router 2, The spot it is on has good cellular reception

And I have to go through a switch because there is only one ethernet wire in the wall between the ddwrt and the switch

You can get a managed switch for ~$20. I would go that route as the hardware is specifically built for it with firmware written in assembly code, so always much faster. Sure, a DDWRT router will do the same, but you don't really gain anything in the end except for a familiar interface. Go with something new and get a managed switch.

Thanks, Any hint about how to configure the VLANs correctly for each of the router/switch?

For the managed switch i guess its pretty easy just add VLAN and add there the port that is connected to Router 2, but what about the configuration of the dd-wrt router? I guess the dd-wrt router needs to know about the new VLAN, so how should it be configured?
