After getting hacked I didn't go through the necessary security steps for the router: I just did an NVRAM erase && install.
Found nothing suggesting errant viruses or spyware on the system except a high latency when pinging the router (1.5ms up to 6 or 7ms). Now I intend to do it properly, I'm going to get a fresh SSD, partition it, and install the disk image, keeping the old one in case something goes awry with the install and I end up without internet. The old SSD I will zero out on a super erase.
I have a paid license key for USB printer support, and I need to figure out how the activation/deactivation goes on there. Is there a process for doing so I need to be aware of?
Last time I did this I was not well versed in linux, now I'm better versed, I have a VM with gparted. What exactly is the install procedure?
Finally, while I'm doing all this, I need to change the boot order (coreboot) so it boots from the SATA port before the USB port. Right now the easiest way I can think to do this is by hooking up a VGA monitor and keyboard. This hardly seems elegant.

2. In case nothing else works, do I have to pay for a new license If I reset to factory defaults with "erase nvram" command?

There is no such thing as deactivation. The license is permanently tied to the MAC address on your computer. To activate the new install simply go through the activation steps you did originally. I have done it several times without issues as I tend to wait a while between updating once I find a stable version. When I do update to get the latest security updates, I always start with a fresh image on my disk. _________________ 2 R7800's (Kong OpenWRT 23.05) as access points
