For a long time now I have been seeing this in netstat -pan:

There is no service command (as in other services) to disable or kill this service. I have a real simple question. Why is this running?
This is a server daemon that does not need to be running for any reason if STP is disabled, which it is on all my routers by default. However, I actually have to take the step to include a specific kill command in the custom command startup field in the dd-wrt gui to put a stop to this server. This has been going on for a long time now; sometime last year at my best estimate.
I would like to know why this code is running but I would also be interested to know why there is no service command to stop or disable it (rendering 'kill' the only way to bring it down). I would also like to know why disabling STP in the GUI has no effect on stopping this server daemon. |
