from what i see is that it could be that wan and lan interfaces are swapped. so eth0 and eth1 are swapped. can someone verify this?

Possible as the No internet light was on, I did not think at the time to try swapping the eth 0 and 1

the internet light has nothing todo with it. we are talking about ethernet interface assignment. you can access the device by wireless in any way. that has no influence here. i will place some testbuilds on my internal ftp in some minutes which may help.

if you can access it and you bridged eth0 and eth1 to br0 you may get dhcp then from lan. this verifies what i assume.

so technically wan is now the lan ports and lan is now the wan port if i'm correct

I knew someone was going to make me push my luck with the head master. I downloaded all the webflash files for Marvell for 53675 alpha earlier.

After having lost access to my router following upgrade to r53662, I have restored my Linksys WRT1200AC to the stock Linksys firmware with the idea to install DD-WRT from scratch. I have then proceeded to update the stock firmware using the factory-to-ddwrt.bin (version r53633), but after reboot I get back to the Linksys stock interface. I tried a few more versions of factory-to-ddwrt.bin files, but the same happens.

I did also try the same after the 3-switch method of (hopefully) switching to the other partition. That did not help; I am also not sure if the partition switch really happened. Unfortunately, the stock firmware does not allow telnet or ssh so I can't use those.

I'm pretty sure my more than poor subject knowledge is preventing me from really understanding the problem, so I kindly ask for help here. Any advice for this dumb newbie?

One of the following should install from stock Linksys FW:

https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2018/01-07-2018-r34411/

https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2017/12-29-2017-r34311/

I don't remember which one I used for my WRT3200ACM. Alternatively, you could have switched to the other partition via wifi
or power switch trick as noted earlier in this thread and then flashed the appropriate alpha file in the folder I linked...

Thanks a million! The r34411 did it! It all worked great. Then I dared to upgrade to r53662 and lost access to the router again. But I have discovered something interesting: if I plug my computer Ethernet cable into the Internet port on the router, I can access its web interface again! Finally, I downgraded to r53633, returned the cables to their correct ports and all works fine. So, it would appear that in r53662 some port definitions got mixed up.
