I have a ASUS RT-AC68U HW Ver.: C1 and I am totally confused:

On the Database it's found and supported but then it just gets confusing with the information on the links. In one it says download from the above which says depreciated, download this before this one or a merlin one which is not what I'm looking for it's just a modified version of the ASUS firmware.

The only resemblance is at this link but I don't know if it is the dd-wrt actual that will work with my router or more confusion especially at '26,688 KB', I thought it would be bigger. Is the below one the right one for my router and version?

So what's your point? The links you posted are the very reason I'm confused and asking for help and or confirmation that I have the right one.

Seriously? I ask a simple question regarding confirmation if anything on a file I think may be the right one and you just regurgitate all that I have looked at without feeling confident and you think you answered the question.

I'm beginning to think your the one whom actually maintains the web pages for dd-wrt considering your response. As such, please refrain from answering to any of my questions or posts. I can honestly say I can do without your extensive knowledge and over 5000 posts.

Have a nice day.

Does not get any simpler or less confusing than that. If you read build threads you would see RT-AC68U C1 users.
If you used search, you would have already known the answer. If you read the links, guess I am asking too much.

BTW I do not maintain any website or wiki, but did take time to find the answers for you. Reaction is unwarranted.

That device wiki is in line to get some edits (read: almost complete re-write because it's not very well-written). RT-AC68P, RT-AC68U, etc. use the same firmware file, and it covers multiple revisions (up to E1?). Only problem is that the usual hardware spec resources may be lacking information because nobody has cracked open the device and provided it or has done enough extensive research:

http://en.techinfodepot.shoutwiki.com/wiki/ASUS_RT-AC68_series

http://en.techinfodepot.shoutwiki.com/wiki/ASUS_RT-AC68U_rev_C1

Some people think things are just plain obvious to everyone and do not consider that each individual's brain works differently. Sometimes, it takes a lot of sifting to find answers that make things crystal clear. The file that you've found is the one needed to flash your router.

Again, this time in plain English 'blkt' you do not know what you are talking about! the mention of C1 is a some guy doing testing on something which links to a forum post from 2016. If you read that entire paragraph from '-KONG BUIlDS' you may notice no reference to Asus as its also stated being 'DEPRECIATED' with a reference to '.bin' To my understanding the ASUS 68U uses '.trx'

In other words in plain English your direction to 'C1' '.bin' file being the right file because it's mentioned is absolute rubbish. That entire 'C1' paragraph is is like your persistent contribution, rubbish!

Again, 'blkt' please refrain for answering to any of my questions or posts.

No, you did not find the file nor confirm the file I found yet alone answer my question but worst of all the information you provide is false and misleading which would lead to many wasted hours if not bricking users equipment.

Yes, the entire site beyond the Database search page can be confusing as it took me a while following dead links, links that lead to no useful information and links that had to be continuously followed before I actually go somewhere meaningful. That was the whole premise of my question. Did I find the right file? It actually makes me wonder how may potential users abandon the prospect of installing dd-wrt due to the confusions created.

Answered your question in plain English, with references that are accurate to determine support for your model.
Provided three additional ways to search it all for yourself, all confirm support yet you continue to ignore reality.

C1 users tested builds from 2016 C1 users continue to test in 2023. Fact. You read build threads or maybe not?
Users wabe (r52369) and epstrada (r52671) are just two examples of C1 users, because I used search for you.

Do you really think I would blindly say 'Yes' to your question without past experience (I have helped C1 users)?
Need more evidence? the-joker (Developer/Maintainer) signature "RT-AC68U E1 (recognized as C1)" detection.

All for what, because you prefer to waste others time instead of searching yourself? Fine, but know what is not?
Amazing your disrespect and attempt to slander because you could not take Yes for an answer with references.

You will not brick your router if you know how to enter firmware recovery mode! Most Asus routers got it. So it's quite hard to brick your RT-AC68U!

In the end, it's a leap of faith. BTW....

DD-WRT wiki Asus RT-AC68U covers both Asus firmware restoration (all versions) also a CFE miniWeb method.
Majority of those "good additional resources" appear be to directly lifted from my previous posts about AC68U.

So it is not as if the wiki is untouched or no attempts have been make to improve it in fact quite the opposite.
It is no leap of faith when many have already done so also reported their results easily searchable by anyone.

Thanks mwchang but that last line was just a joke. I wouldn't be doing it if I wasn't willing to take the risk as I have flashed a router in the past and back again to factory. It was a pleasurable sense of stress. Very Happy

Willing to take the risk is flashing without hesitation with full knowledge of how easy it is to recover this router.
There is no other file option only asus_rt-ac68u-firmware.trx this resides in folder asus-rt-ac68u wiki is correct.

So I took a few seconds to plug in asus_rt-ac68u-firmware.trx, your initial question into DD-WRT forum search.

"Router/Version: RT-AC68UC1
File/Kernel: asus_rt-ac68u-firmware.trx / Linux 4.4.302-st38 #9289 SMP Mon May 8 02:11:25 +06 2023 armv7l
Previous/Reset: DD-WRT v3.0-r49268 std (06/19/22) / no
