So, wonder if there is some workaround.
Have the RT-AC87U and I have tried 2 different DD-WRT versions, 01-03-2023-r51154 and 05-27-2023-r52720. Have applied all the settings one by one and selected "apply". However, there is no other options than "auto" available in 5 GHz channels. In addition, only "lower" and "upper" are the options for extension channel. No difference whether using 20, 40 or 80 MHz channel width. Tried "Europe" and "USA" regulatory domains. Common problem with RT-AC87U?
Thanks.

I will say this, the 5GHz on this router has the Quantenna chipset, which is not supported in DD-WRT, and never has been. Probably because of closed source or lack of open source support from the vendor.
Of course, we must suspect that you are on the current release of DD-WRT.
Done exactly in this order.
Using 05-27-2023-r52720 right now, there is only 1 release after mine. I don't believe upgrading will fix the problem since it was there at 01-03-2023-r51154.
Found from the forum-wide search, @jrscs has reported many successful results with many DD-WRT releases with the RT-AC87U.
Had this unit since it first came out. The 5GHz wireless channel settings have never been able to be modifed since it is a Quantenna chipset and closed source. Never had an issue with the wireless as it fit my need. _________________ Netgear XR500, R7800

Indeed, it is a well-known issue with no resolution other than source code request from Quantenna, which I believe was denied.

Thanks for the info! I will also try to manage with the auto channel.

So this Quantenna 5Ghz is working? Just that no settings can be changed? And you could not disable it or turn it off? _________________ Router: Asus RT-N18U (rev. A1)

Correct. The 5GHz wireless channel works and I've never tried to disable it or turn it off. Been a long time since I used it so I'll pull it out of storage in a few days to confirm. _________________ Netgear XR500, R7800

Weird or not, the 5GHz wifi seems to work well also with the auto channel at least for me. In fact, the coverage is as good as with the Asus firmware.
That means the driver is in DD-WRT, just that DD-WRT does not know how to interact with the driver? That packets are flowing between the Quantenna chip and DD-WRT. _________________ Router: Asus RT-N18U (rev. A1)

There's no Quantenna driver in DD-WRT, OR there is no interface to interact with said driver. From what I've come to understand from conversations of others with Mr. Gottschall himself is that there is no Quantenna support (meaning, NO DRIVER). None of the upstream kernel-available code supports the hardware, either. _________________ "The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

I doubt the 5GHz wifi wouldn't work without the driver, either. As said, it is working stable, but with no chance to select the channel.
I tested a third party wifi analyzer and it seems to select the channel 136 for my 5GHz wifi. See an attachment.
