Does anyone have tips or articles related to tuning multiple APs for better roaming? My moving devices such as tablets, phones etc seem to get stuck. They move eventually as they get booted due to low signal but takes time. I know we likely won’t be able to match the performance of a “true mesh” system but looking to get close.

more details provided more fun
-what build you are running...firmware number
-what is the mesh type WDS or WAP...or any other..
-pic of your set up will make things easier..
-there must be a option for FT fast transition...or fast roaming...but it's also client dependant and its settings
-depends of the SSID name too...I've never seen a smooth transition anywhere yet...hotels, hospitals or ect.

I have a fairly well tuned WDS system on my large 9 acre property, at least 90% of which is covered by WiFi. See my signature for my router list.

I have never had a roaming issue. I use the default settings for dropped signals, etc.

R7800 (used by OP) has under Advanced options the following settings:

Drop Clients with Low Signal
----------------------------
Minimum Signal for authenticate
Minimum Signal for connection
Poll Time for signal lookup
Amount of allowed low signals

I've had some success with increasing "Minimum signal" to, say, -90.

What would be advantages of using @dale_gribble39's scripts? As far as I can see what they do is a subset of what the settings above should do.

ihave a multi wds setup and roaming is smooth.

1)I use the same ssid across all interfaces
2)Drop due to low signal
3) Enable spanning tree (stp) - will avoid any potential loops
4) Disable SFE (not technically required unless using QOS and some FW stuff, but i find it fixes a lot of wierdness)
5) depending on your setup you may need to rollback to 51589 on your 7800 STAs -
https://svn.dd-wrt.com/ticket/7669 - you can have your NON STA at highest code level, if you arent using 7800s or 9000s as sta this may or may not apply.
