Just wondering if anyone has used this software DNS Benchmark to determine which DNS are the quickest for their location.

Ive been using 9.9.9.9 and 1.0.0.1 (Secondary) but with the test I ran it said the quickest DNS servers are from OpenDNS 208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.222.

Can these be trusted?

Thanks

I did in the past but just specify two or three DNS servers in static DNS 1,2 and 3 and DNSMasq will query them all and uses the quickest.
I also use 9.9.9.9 and 1.0.0.1, if you want just add one of OpenDNS servers

P.S. Do not use "Query DNS in strict order" as it is unreliable/useless

DNS that are closest will be the fastest...
If we know your router model...we could suggest to use SmartDNS as it uses always the fastest DNS and has its own query algorithms..

very likely those DNS providers, to have local transponders, so do not expect to see 9.9.9.9 or 1.1.1.1 in the results servers list, but those that are the local transponders...

Thanks Ive just setting up my new R7800, at the moment Ive changed my DNS servers to be 1.1.1.1 and secondary 1.0.0.1. I did a couple of ping tests and found that the above DNS settings produced the best results.

Smart DNS sounds interesting, I will read up on it see how I go.

Just quick note about SmartDNS it can be used also with DNS encryption ..so DNS gets more secure..

for all steps you can read my post (the long one) https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=323896&start=240 just make sure you use this option too Use Additional Servers Only

Um... is this just a test of disk i/o that operates the DNS? Plain file vs indexed? RDBMS? Smile

And disk i/o is depending on the power of various router processors, and whether the DNS files are stored in slow USB external drives. And then we need to think about encryption, which obviously depends on router processors.

If you google "dns test", speed is not the priority, but leaks.

dns test - Google Search
https://www.google.com/search?q=dns+test

Anyway, thank you for posting the link.

I've used that program in the past, when I changed ISP and/or moved to another location.

I do, but for reliability resons, I rather choose two or three different (fast and reliable) DNS providers, and follow other known DNS good practices.

While there may be a few milliseconds saved by using a closer DNS, there's a security aspect to how Quad9 operates and blocks malware sites. After viewing the video from Lawrence System, I changed my DNS to 9.9.9.9/149.112.112.112 everywhere.
