Are you using ssh key authentication or password authentication? Something tells me that one or the other is timing out before authentication completes, if anything. That being said, if normal ssh logins via terminal or putty are working properly, then this is not a DD-WRT issue. Pretty sure I already know the answer.

i am using key authentication, and putty fails also so it is a dd-wrt issue, or quite honestly a setting or something i am missing. also, after restarting sshd, it eventually fails again.

Keep in mind that dropbear is using ed25519 keys for authentication. You may have to make some adjustments for putty, etc. and/or clear known hosts and key fingerprints. I don't have discussion links handy, but this is not a new discussion.

the child connection is my nagios instance loggjng in. it worked multiple times before 10:10:33

What was that Nagios doing? Running a script over a SSH connection?

Bad passwords and/or wrong key should not crash Dropbear SSH....

i am not sure how nagios works, but it has worked for about 5 years, until r52369. Dropbear is clearly working with both putty and my nagios instance until it crashes. it is not as if it never works, it works for an inconsistent period and then crashes. I can restart the daemon and everything is fine again, until it crashes. Hard to believe no one else is seeing the issue though.

Well, I don't use Nagios, and my router is different from yours. If it had worked for 5 years, then some recent changes in DD-WRT might have caused or unleashed the problem.

Could it be IPv6? Lately it's being worked on vigorously. But Nagios might still be quilty. Smile
