No 5g wireless with 2.4 disabled

I got Linksys EA8500 with DD-WRT v3.0-r44719 installed (tried few previous builds as well).
If I turn off 2.4G radio by choosing "Disabled" under Wireless -> Basic Settings -> Wireless Network Mode for ath0 (which is 2.4G interface) the 5g wireless network (on ath1 interface) disappears. The Status shows that Radio is OFF for 2.4G (which is expected), Radio is ON for 5g (which is also expected) but the Channel for 5g is listed "Unknown" and TX power is 0 dBm.
Any thoughts? Thank you

The router database does not contain the latest release.

Also: in latest versions, radio firmware is often (if not always) DD-WRT by default. Try changing to Vanilla.
