lol 11 years old account and you asking for stable build...well good to know what do you use your router for...as stable build it could be stable for certain configuration and it could be WIP for another... check the last build 52095 https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2023/

See the forum guidelines with helpful pointers about how to research your router, where and what firmware to download, where and how to post and many other helpful tips:
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=324087

*After* upgrade (latest is 52095) reset to defaults and put settings in manually, never restore from a backup (to a different build).

Thanks for the information.

I live outside the US and only use the router to run a VPN account (using OpenVPN) to access streaming services (so I don't use the forum regularly/at all - sorry!).

The internet speed using vpn on the router is not good (less than 10% of ISP speed w/o vpn), so before purchasing a new router I wanted to see if upgrading the dd-wrt would improve performance (or have Wireguard feature) . . . I would appreciate any advice/recommendation for a solution.

Thanks again for your help.

Sorry, another question . . .

I don't see the Linksys E3000 listed on the link suggested.
Is there another Linksys model (or other router model) that I can use instead?
If so, which model?

Thanks.

I have an E2000 which is similar, OpenVPN about 6 Mb/s, WireGuard usually triples that speed.

My R7800 does about 280 Mb/s running WireGuard

Both OpenvPN and WireGuard docs are stickies in the Advanced Networking forum

Your Build is in the Broadcom_K3x directory (it will use Kernel 4.4 to be precise)

Mb/s egc meant MBit/s... Cool

so, yep WG is faster than OpenVPN, but OpenVPN has more advanced options...
and yes all documentation regarding WG or VPN is at the sticky's advanced networking

Thanks everyone for the quick replies!

Yes - I only get 6mb/s using OpenVPN . . .
Can I use Wireguard with the suggested dd-wrt build?

Thanks!

With the K3X build (Kernel 4.4.) you can, not with the K2.6 build.

WireGuard needs as minimum K3.10

Your choices for firmware file locations are in the broadcom_K26 or broadcom_K3X folders:

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_E3000

https://ftp.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2023/03-23-2023-r52095/broadcom_K26/

https://ftp.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2023/03-23-2023-r52095/broadcom_K3X/

For K26, use the dd-wrt.v24-52095_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-nv60k.bin file (still no mega images!); for K3X, use the dd-wrt.v24-52095_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega.bin file. Don't get clobbered by the device wiki; there is a lot of old information in there.

Thanks for the info on which bin to use.

Just to confirm, can I use the Webgui (on the current dd-wrt installed) to load/upgrade the broadcom_k3x bin, or do I need to follow a different procedure?

Sorry for all the questions, but I don't want to brick the router.

Thanks.

If you are already on DDWRT you can just upgrade via the GUI

I would reset to defaults before upgrade and after upgrade.
The reset to defaults after update is the most important one.

Put settings in manually never restore from a backup (to a different build).

We can never guarantee that the router will not brick always keep your fingers crossed Wink

During last builds my E3000 many times required to be unbricked with TFTP. The router does not come up proper after flashing from GUI. Last time i even needed to reset configuration to be successful and reconfigure afterwards. During regular operation the router is quite stable.

Thanks for the lack of reporting that information in the forum. Now we don't know if it's holding onto old irrelevant configurations or what that bricked your router.
