Hi, after spending 3 hours looking though the fourm and trying multiple things which ill list below, I decided to make a post instead of lurking. I purchased a R8000 router from ebay that has Firmware Version V1.4.1.68_1.3.28 on it.

I tried using the latest from what i found via this fourm post which looked like it had successful r7000 updates:
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=333602

I also saw that I should be able to update via the gui as it was a fixed issue from a long time ago, but that was years ago.

Fourm Post stating builds after 41489 should be resolved:
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=315110&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=105
Bug report:https://svn.dd-wrt.com/ticket/6888

I tried to do what was suggested a long time ago as in to flash openwrt into ddwrt but I could not get openwrt to work either. Gave the same invalid firmware version.

Lastly attempted to downgrade the stock firmware and use the old methods that worked prior for other users in the posts above from 2019. But alas even then it throws the incompatiable firmware from its own code.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Can you downgrade your stock firmware version?

If not you can try TFTP or nmrpflash, not you have to use the images for first flash.

Although not for your router have a look at the second post of this thread:

R8000 incompatible firmware version, are you sure this is not R8000P?

After looking into this further, looks like it is a r8000p; listing said it was r8000 didn't bother to look at the serial since I didn't know there was a p version. Thanks sorry for wasting everyones time, kinda feel dumb now.

And the R8000P is not currently supported, and one problem is that the board IDs are different, but it is not suggested to hack this in any way. There is also the issue of hardware not being identical enough to take a chance.

Only the R7900P and R7960P are 100% identical (and neither are supported by DD-WRT)

OpenWrt supports R8000P but no idea about current wireless status you may end up with an Ethernet only router.

WikiDevi: R7800 (XR450/XR500), R7500v2, EA8500, R9000 (R8900/XR700).
R7800, XR450, XR500, R7500v2, EA8500 (serial flash), x86 (one, two, three).
