EA8500 r51976 Vanilla both radios are now totally broken, not partially. Previous builds do recover since r50963.

r50927 and r50931 are the last two builds without crashing before these is a long history of stability with Vanilla.

BTW I never use TurboQAM, never enabled "experimental" features, but willing to bisect r50932 through r50962.

idk why bs is go against vanilla fw for.. ddwrt fw im sorry, but is complete crap. latency is HORRIBLE, throughput is a jittery mess.. i have 1gbit down, my iphone 13 pro max maxes the 866m ac link rate at a stable low latency 630-665mbps with vanilla fw, ddwrt fw gives a jittery 200-540mbps with poor latency for example.. and its not just iphone either. though i stopped testing them for the past month or so but judging by this build.. looks like its good i did..

the crash occures while switching firmware and it happens only a single time. the firmware is then reloaded correct and all is working. i have a vanilla testrouter here.
and about the comment why i ignore vanilla firmwares and focus on ddwrt firmwares. the ddwrt firmware is the only thing i can modify and work on it and i dont have latency issues using my iphone 12 pro max. but maybe you should try the latest and not a version one year old. there was alot done over time. there might be a issue using the distance setting. so set a distance which is higher than expected like 8000 if you have latency issues.
i use the ddwrt firmware as wds sta / ap link and as standard ap firmware every day. i dont know what your issue is

The firmware does not crash only 1x, when I flash build r51976 and reboot the router I have at least 5x crashes in the log.

Update method: SSH / CLI using PuTTY
Router/Version: Netgear R9000 Nighthawk X10
File/Kernel: DD-WRT v3.0-r51937 std (03/05/23)
Previous/Reset: DD-WRT v3.0-r51937 std (03/05/23) / No
Mode/Status: Gateway / Working Normally
Issues/Errors: FAILURE

Attempted CLI update as usual. The R9000 rebooted five times and then came up with DD-WRT v3.0-r51976 std (03/08/23) with factory reset settings. I reverted to v3.0-r51937 std and restored my settings. I am back to v3.0-r51937 std and am stable.

Previous/Reset: DD-WRT v3.0-r51937 std (03/05/23), no reset this time.
Mode/Status: 2 devices, Wired access points (Vanilla firmware, AC/N mixed, VHT80)
Issues/Errors:
After upgrade, worked fine for several hours, then found I could not access the GUI or SSH. On one of the two, it came back after several reboots, the other took a hard reset. Reverted back to r51937.

Here is my two cents.

Whenever my router appears to be 'drunk' (for lack of a better word) after an upgrade and for no apparent reason, i reflash my router with the firmware version i had on it, before the upgrade together with factory reset. Then i restore the backup that was done just before the upgrade.

This way, i feel confident that no accidental gremlins got lurking behind the re-flashing.

Each user's router has, at least, some variable settings different from one another. This makes it, methinks, hard to pinpoint with laser accuracy the precise issue/s for diagnosis.

I have been using 2.4GHz and 5GHz using DD-WRT, not Vanilla, with no discernible differences for last few months. Performance or distance.

(I am currently on r51440 due to issue with OpenVPN Server connection, if OpenVPN Client is also running on same router. It's different to the hot issue reported in this particular thread though).

Cheers
