I am really frustrated with just the basic 1,2,3 steps to identify if my router is compatible with dd-wrt and then to find the right firmware
i see places where the advice is NOT to use the router lookup database. i see adivce to use the appropriate h/w device forum but its not clear what that means
Simple Question...
i have a plain vanilla tp-link ac1200 archer c5 v1.2. what are the actual steps i would follow to use these forums to determine compatibility
Your device has been supported since archer-c5-v1 build 25697 20141222. May require further investigation to figure out which factory-to-ddwrt.bin file to use from the current release if it is still on stock firmware.
Also, this device is Atheros: https://wikidevi.wi-cat.ru/TP-LINK_Archer_C5_v1.x _________________ "The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

Yes to C7 v1, but I've found nothing in the forum nor any tickets that support your claim for the C5 v1. If you're not sure of your answer, it's best to not offer it so as to not add any confusion. _________________ "The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

Thanks Dale for pointing me to the folder of firmware. I see the factory-ddwrt.bin file
I am now trying to follow the General forum Instructions very carefully.
they say before flashing to look at your h/w specific wiki
but there is NOT a wiki for Archer C5, only for Archer C7, etc
so i do just use the router GUI to flash to the .bin file ?

You should be able to flash the correct factory-to-ddwrt.bin file via stock firmware webUI, yes. I couldn't find any information to discern which serial numbers or other identifying information requires factory-to-ddwrt-IL.bin, factory-to-ddwrt-US.bin, or factory-to-ddwrt.bin. "IL" is Israel*, "US" is for USA and the other is generic and covers all models in other markets that are not US or IL. This device should have the usual TFTP recovery in case you pick the wrong file.
*-EDIT: Thanks for the correction, sir blkt! _________________ "The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

TP-Link Archer C5 V1 installers & upgrades are basically same sizes, so nothing is missing.
Compatible yes, but low-spec router can only expect basic functionality, little performance.
