R7000 also has tcpdump and snmp by default... but i use entware to install tcpdump / nmap and some other stuff on the routers that dont have those by default...so, you can add SNMP if you really want it...the short question is...
how to make it work..??...as intended as not much info on those packages..sometimes... _________________ Atheros

It appears Wireguard took precedence over SNMP on the lower-end devices, anyway. I don't think it will be entertained to have different types of builds for devices with ≤ 16MB flash. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

Thanks all again for feedback and suggestions, much appreciated. The 'Entware' option seems like a good approach as Archer A7 v5 has USB port available. I run my setup in a small, home environment. I simply like playing with low-budget solutions as I don't want to turn my living space into a rack-mount data center environment (from both $$, size and noise perspective). Still, despite being cheap devices...having some monitoring and turning gathered data into centralized graphs and alerts is always a good thing to have available.

Cheap ... but R7800 is so cheap on the ebay/amazon second hand will do miracles...will keep you going for years even R7000 witch is dual core Broadcom is very cheap....you dont really need a rack mount enterprise stuff for a home use...well im guessing...
But yep Entware will sort you out and for a slow ISP connection around 100Mbit Archer will do ok..probably..it depends how many clients at the same time and what you do with it..for example QoS, more than x2 VLAN's and VPN with PBR will kill it...
I have a 1043v2 which for basic stuff isn't bad, but lacks on performance and doesn't have a ssl, DNSSEC and some other extras...but overall for single core CPU @720Mhz it rocks on stability and radio range/performance...sadly i also use VPN on those and performance is very very limited to 10-15Mbit..
it does ok for browsing and so on... _________________ Atheros

Actually, Archer A7 V5 easily handles ~250Mb/s throughput with no sweat, on (as per plan) 300Mb/s provider's link. Just fresh tested it. It runs r51576 DD-WRT and OpenVPN is actively running. That's more than OK for me. Cost me $19.99 refurbished.
