Hi all! I'm an American that is currently living in Germany. I have a local DSL provider and I bought an old router from a colleague so that I could stream American TV among other things. The router is a Nighthawk X4 (R7500 model) I'm running the latest stable release (V3- Build 44715) of dd-WRT and my VPN provider is NordVPN. The actual problem that I'm encountering is when I start the service (streaming/working really anything at all) Telekom's (my provider) DSL AP will stop passing the traffic. I've changed the MTU packet size, tried both TCP/UDP, Changed the DNS MASQ the only thing left that I have not yet tried is going back to netgear's software and I don't really want to do that as I really like the DDWRT interface and all the options/functionality. Any ideas/help would be appreciated. Thanks all.

Welcome to the forum Smile

I moved your post to the more appropriate Advanced Networking forum.

See the forum guidelines with helpful pointers about how to research your router, where and what firmware to download, where and how to post and many other helpful tips:
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=324087

If you have read the forum guide lines you know that you are running an old and outdated build (not saying that that is the problem but you should update anyway)

So first update and *after* update reset to defaults and put settings in manually, never restore from a backup (to a different build).

Most VPN providers have outdated and even wrong setup instructions.
Please see the OpenVPN Client setup guide for some guidance about how to setup:

Yep follow the egc advises from above...
-read the guides
-update to a newer build(make sure you put correct build as R7500 are 2 models v1 or v2 there is no v 3 supported or know to me...reset and add all settings manually !!!
-make sure DSL modem is set to a bridge mode (preferred)or there is not NAT or is in d-milzone, otherwise you'll end up with double NAT (its not that that bad)...
-than according to the guide set client OpenVPN...
-come back to post results or if you'd need more help Wink
Happy Reading ! Wink Cool

Maybe you didn't read all of my message...? for my AP I am on the latest and greatest. I read the guides, Re-configured, nothing... Double NAT is not an issue I ensured that was turned off on the DSL AP. I will try the bridging mode when I have more time to monkey with this.

I might have misread your post but to me it looked like you are using build 44715 which is an old and outdated build.

So, when I go to look up my AP firmware and version and all of that, what it listed is not the best option for my AP? I can see that there are more recent and current builds, but will they work with my router? When I pull up my specific device, I have the highest one available. I am new to DD WRT but not new to IT. I do know that some things are not designed and maybe aren't meant for all devices. If you're telling me that whatever the latest build it will work with my router, then I will put it on.

And if you are not satisfied you can get a full refund Wink

Well, looks like it's not working at all. It won't even connect to the VPN, Followed the guide, using the latest and greatest, Do I need to pull stuff out of the log? I'm stumped.

Start with sharing screenshots of Openvpn setup page and content of additional config and openvpn status page (whole page).

Hopefully that will give us some idea what is wrong.
