Hello,
I'm running a pair of old ASUS RT-N66U with a recent build (dd-wrt.v24-51506_NEWD-2_K3.x-big-RT-N66U.trx) from 1/25/2023. I have these set as relatively dumb access points but would like them to interpret vlans associated with virtual access points. I've had next to no luck configuring vlans. Often just adding new inactive rows to the switch config and applying the settings is enough to cause the device to go unresponsive and requires use of the reset button and a restored config. This makes experimentation a slog and has brought me here to ask for help.
How well supported are vlans on my model? I've attempted to scrape the dd-wrt ecosystem for snippets of info shotgunned across the forum, wikis, website, social media, etc with mixed impressions. Is using the gui for this the wrong way to handle it?

I do not have your router so cannot give a definitive answer but often it is as simple as using the Switch config tab (see attachment for my EA6900) and then making a a bridge br1 and assigning VLAN3 to that bridge.
But the prerequisite is that you run a recent build (you do) and you did a reset to defaults and put settings in *manually* recently, restoring a backup from a different build is useless.
Otherwise you have to use swconfig to manually setup VLANs
