Getting slow wired speeds to and from my R8000.

A few tests:

From local PC to R8000

From R8000 to internet

For reference, local pc to PfSense VM

PfSense VM to internet

Both devices on the same connection, through the same switch. R8000 does state in its status page that the link is 1Gbit. Playing with the SFE settings (either SFE, CTF or Disable) changes nothing.

Do you not have CTF & FA ?

On most Broadcom Northstar routers it becomes available after you have enabled CTF and then reboot and clear the browser cache (CTRL + F5)
(But it is only available when automatic DHCP is enabled)

I have the R7000p router. For some reason, with recent builds occasionally my wired speed decreased to very low levels but the wireless speed stays good. The only solution I have found is to reset the network adapter

nvram variable that enables FA on R8000 is removed/unset because when it is enabled it bootloops unit. You can add it manually with nvram set but it will brick your router. It works on netgears fw but no go on ddwrt. But I also founded on snbforum that makes no difference when enabled on netgears firmware (makes same speed ~300mbs). BrainsLayer told me: "fa is hardware offloading by the switch itself, you dont know if the manufacturer does make use of it. Its not supported by the specific hardware configuration"

ddwrt nvram:

root@62428:~# nvram show | grep ctf
size: 38587 bytes (26949 left)
ctf_disable=0
ctf_fa_cap=0
has_ctf=1

netgear nvram:

ctf_fa_mode=2
ctf_disable=0
ctf_disable_force=0
ctf_fa_cap=1
ctf_pt_udp=0

r8000 eth speed are very slow on ddwrt but with ctf enabled I get my full wan ISP speed 150mbps with noproblem... I have feeling it would go faster but my wan speed is 150mbps so I cannot check it...

I am to lazy to put serial on r8000. I am bad with soldering... but if someone could do serial connection with enabled FA i have feeling we could get some info why it is bootlooping...

No, no FA available.

But someone else in this thread is mentioning this being "by-design" in some builds, so guessing I need to go back to an older one.

Is there an older build you know if where it works? Or has it just been like that forever?

I have a 1gbits line and on the WAN port it's the same speed as on LAN.

as you can see its disabled on mine... you can manually enable it with:

Code:
nvram set ctf_fa_cap=1

and it will show up in the GUI. But be carefull, it can softbrick your unit... Not a big deal just do hard reset with reset button on unit...

I don't know if it was working before... I got mine r8000 in february of 2022 n, tried it, it wasn't working and I never checked it again...

registered an acct specifically to thank you for this. i was about 10 mins away from ditching my r7000 and buying some wifi6 goofery but with these three clicks my speed increased 500-600mbps. now i just need to figure out how to make privoxy work with the same speeds, ddwrt forever.

Hello,

Just wanted to add...I don't think this was working, I tried CTF+FA around 6 months ago on my R8500 and it would freeze the router. And CTF alone works but will eventually reboot the router (within 2-3 hours).

Hope this helps
