I have the Tp-Link TL-WDR3600 v 1.5. After more than 1 day uptime device have ~40 - 50 secs stops of serving the internet connection. All functions look good, but I can't use internet and after ~40 secs connections back without my actions. When I try to fix problem I decide to restart router via button on case and physically restart ISP modem by button on case. After restart devices services working better. Today I see large system load on Tp-Link and double tasks after look to ps in Putty. "DD-WRT Guru" you can to see this posts. I'm attach photo & ps command efect. I have two task with ssh, I don't no why and why it's a big load (sometimes 30% and higher) when ~10 connections is active.
How about a screen-shot of the command top when the slow-down happened?
Should the cycle of slow-down was predictable, maybe some wireless devices in your home LAN were looking for updates? _________________ Router: Asus RT-N18U (rev. A1)

Great to hear you had no issues intially, have you had any issues since with the R8000 router reverting back ddwrt defaults?
This has happened to me 3 times so far randomly and I need to restore from backup to restore my custom network settings.
