Main router Keenetic II with keenetic OS, wifi extender Keenetic 1 with DD-WRT.
Code:
CPU: RT3052 MIPS24Kc @384MHz Flash: 8MB RAM: SDRAM 32bit 32MB
WLAN: Built in SoC 2T2R/300Mbps (2.4GHz) Switch: 5x100MbE with HW_NAT v1 USB: 1x2.0

It connects to my main router via wifi and gives out wifi. Usually it is 11-7 40mhz wide, but after a while it goes to just channel 11 20mhz wide. If I either reboot the router, or adjust some settings in wifi and save and apply, it goes back to 40mhz wide.

What's happening? What settings should I look at? What's causing this?

Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r44715 std (11/03/20)

Your build is old and outdated, which could or could not be the problem.

See the forum guidelines with helpful pointers about how to research your router, where and what firmware to download, where and how to post and many other helpful tips:

Latest build is 50963.

Is there another name for your router besides Kineetic 1, this name does not ring a bell and is not registered in our router database

Probably a hack of flashing Asus RT-N13U or DLink DIR-620 firmware image to the Zyxel Keenetic - "unofficial support":

DIR-620 Based RT-3052F - page 2

Caveat emptor on devices that are not officially supported.

I've diagnosed the problem more... See bellow. And no, I have the latest available build for my device.

yep. The source for all information is 4PDA -- https://4pda.to/forum/index.php?showtopic=443906

Basically it's like this. It is HT40 all day long and for as long as HT40 clients connect, like my windows and linux laptops. But here I come to the kitchen with my iphone 14 and connect. And bam, the darn thing goes to HT20 and stays there until reboot, or save and apply as described above.

Now guys. I have another wifi extender router, D-Link DIR-300. That's another ancient piece of hardware. It used to be top notch back in the day. So that thing has OpenWRT (piece of crap compared to DD-WRT, I literally had to mess with it three days to get it working).

Now this is important. When I connect with my iPhone to OpenWRT that thing does not go to HT20.........

This means, there is a setting in DD-WRT which could be modified.

Please help me out.

It looks like it is Ralink/Mediatek.
