some TV/smart devices have a baked in DNS...and using 192.168.1.1/router internal DNS causes latency...as simple as that..was it mentioned on the link i posted too..i guess... _________________ Atheros

i was able to force my samsung 2019 smart tv to use my Pi-hole by manually configuring a static IP & DNS so it should work for you, pretty sure Samsung hard code google dns so need to manually enter DNS server to bypass, well seemed the youtube app is hard coded at least.

yep setting static IP & DNS on smart devices always helps...I set it on TV's/smart devices for the same reason, Philips, Samsung and Sony TV i've no problem with setting a foreign DNS, like either my router DNS or 9.9.9.9 most of the time... _________________ Atheros

you need to check forced DNS redirection and click ignore wan DNS at the top of the main setup tab
Ignore WAN DNS - I do not seem to have this option.
Force DNS Redirection - I am not sure why that would help? If a client is already configured to use the router as DNS then this just seems redundant.
I'm on Firmware:DD-WRT v3.0-r50274 std (09/27/22)
Even though this is a bit old thread, this really helped. I was struggling with slow DNS since couple months after the upgrade. Thanks a ton!

Why you don't use the newest build of dd-wrt. I have the dnsmasq and own configuration on the newest build. I haven't problems with DNS. My router is Tp-Link WDR3600 so it's rather old model. It works rather good. Update router to build 12/12/22.
