I'm using dd-wrt on a TP-LINK c8 router with astrill vpn for several years.
Yesterday I returned home and after a power stop for an hour, the vpn wasn't working on the ddwrt.
Since i have done the installation some years ago and I couldn't find the password for the ddwrt, i have reset it (pushing the wifi button for 10sec ) on the router.
Im trying to install again the astrill vpn on the ddwrt, following the instructions at the Astrill page, but when im entering the provided link to the ssh console (administration - commands) nothing happens.
Doni have to make any adjustments to ddwrt in order to install the Astrill ?

You have to ask Astrill.

Latest and recommended build is 50841, however this might not be compatible with Astrill.

Hi,
i just installed the astrill applet on 50841 yesterday, and installtioon worked all fine. MAke sure you SSH enabled in windows.
You access the applet via Status --> My Page; That's were it stops working for me.
GUI is messed up (can't immage they design it like this) none of the functions work for me, just get an infinity loading screen.
What was the build you used before where it all worked fine ? I alos just checked with astrill tec support they say 2nd last build should be working. I' ll try that later afternoon.

I went from a NOV2020 with functioning Astrill Applet to NOV2022 latest build; the applet UI broke.
I've rolled back a bit to try and get the applet working again. I'm currently on 12 JUL 2021 (47040), which seems to have restored applet functionality. I would be eager to update to a more recent build, but not if it breaks the applet UI.
Note that the VPN connection would connect if set to 'connect automatically to next favorite server'. I suspect it's the UI (MyPage?) that breaks with later builds, and that managing outside of the UI (SSH?Telnet?) might work...?
Astrill support suggested my incident was isolated; but this post clearly indicates it is not.

I'm not sure if I'd say they are doing a 'bad' job, probably just focusing resources elsewhere and their customer support may be aloof. I suspect their DD-WRT applet is their least used product after Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android. The installation process isn't non-tech friendly; Telnet/SSH installation, which can be intimidating to those with no prior command line experience. The trademark/copyright date was 2015-2019, which leads me to believe it may have last been touched in 2019.
Astrill service functions where I currently reside, which has heavily restricted internet, so I'm grateful for that. I used a competitor's service for years, but that service recently became unusable (i.e. blocked). Switching over to Astrill provides a stable connection, but I'm trying to tweak things just right and that hasn't been smooth.
Pardon my ignorance, I haven't used DD-WRT in years and only a month ago came back to it (to install the VPN applet). Would updating MyPage outside of the routine firmware upgrade possibly result in a re-functioning applet? Of course, I'd like to use the latest DD-WRT release but only if I can continue using the applet. Again, I think the core functions of the applet work (the VPN automatically connected and tunneled the appropriate data as setup prior to the firmware upgrade) but there is no way to control it from the UI.

Received a response from customer service last night:
"We would like to inform that DD-WRT is known to have random version breaking random features. It is possible that upgrading/downgrading the build can solve everything or it can cause more problems. Its a roulette to find a stable DD-WRT build for a specific router. This is why we do not suggest upgrading DD-WRT firmware for routers if its work fine with the current build.
Asus Merlin on the other hand is very stable and is very close to factory firmware, which means all features work well."
Per the above statement, it seems unlikely any updates to the Astrill DDWRT applet will come out in the near future. Customers will be stuck with mid-2021 and earlier builds.
I'm curious about DDWRT's obfuscation for OPENVPN, including StrongVPN, however I recently signed up for a long subscription to the above provider so probably won't be switching in the coming months. I still have an ExpressVPN subscription, but their in-house firmware (I think customized DD-wrt) rarely hit sufficient bandwidths and was recently near-entirely blocked. I suspect I can pull OpenVPN certs from them to try out the obfuscation and see what bandwidth can be achieved, and if the connection remains stable. Their (express) custom firmware never got close to what I'm currently getting even on an 18+ month old DD-wrt build with the non-updated Astrill applet.

DD-WRT is frequently being updated and improved
I think it is easily solved as they are using MyPage and that needs only two small adjustments but it really looks like they are not wanting to support DD-WRT.
But that is something they should clearly state on their website.
Older builds can/will have security issues, so I would ask your money back.
About Obfuscation (a.k.a. scramble options) it is supported by a number of OpenVPN providers e.g. TorGuard and StrongVPN etc.
Our OpenVPN Client setup guide (sticky in this forum) has a paragraph about this.

Thanks for pointing out your buid version 47040, i just downgraded and i can confirm that the applet works with that build for Linksys wrt1900 acs V2.
Anyone here running the applet fully functional on a later build please let us know which version ure on?
