I'm posting in hopes of receiving advice and get help with a WDS setup of dd-wrt. Help in understanding terms and, if possible, guru help with the setup I'm attempting to create.
I have read the Peacock sticky and searched the forums and read most of the search results for e1000 and WDS under Broadcom. I'm trying to setup a WDS between a e1000v2.1, which I successfully flashed with v24-44715-NEWD-2-K2_6_mini.bin (downloaded from the router database link on the e1000 v2.1 page). The main router is a ActionTec C1000A, with latest software and network id of 192.168.0.1 which uses a Broadcom BCM435f wireless chip, SOC BCM63168,supports WDS and WPA2-AES on wireless. The C1000A is a b/g/n modem/router from Centurylink, my ISP. I control the C1000A and have activated WDS. I followed the wiki tutorial about dd-wrt WDS setup. After applying the settings on the DD-WRT, the C1000A (main router) wireless MAC is NOT visible in the WDS Nodes list, although the e1000 MAC is visible on the C1000A WDS nodes list. If I go to dd-wrt "Status" and "Join" the SSID being broadcast from the C1000A, then the C1000A will show in the dd-wrt WDS Nodes. If I then attempt to ping 192.168.01, from the Administration panel commands tab, all packets are lost. I also can not get the e1000 cabled Win7 PC to ping 192.168.0.1, error is destination host not reachable. The e1000 id was changed to 192.168.0.253, with gateway 192.168.0.1, and dns as 192.168.0.1, firewall is off, all tutorial steps followed.
Is the tutorial out of date for the dd-wrt software version and more steps are needed, like a VLAN?
Is there a need to do any route maps or virtual AP LANs to get WDS to function?
Does WDS not function in this software version?
I'm basically attempting to get the e1000 to act as a WIFI extender, because the signal of the C1000A is so weak that the FireTV and Chromecast stick are struggling for a good signal to stream the shows.
To confirm WDS functions on the C1000A I borrowed a TP-Link AC750, which links with the C1000A and acts as a second WIFI AP without troubles.
The locations of both routers is not convenient to run a CAT5 cable between and tier the subnet, which is why I thought WDS is a better scenario. From the Linking Rounters tutorials I understood that wireless clients to a second AP with wireless connection to main routers via WDS is only choice, is that right, or can a totally wireless repeater be setup to accomplish my desired results?
Advice to a fellow fisherman is appreciated. Cheers, BrianA_MN
From what I see here, there isn't much info without having device in hand to set up WDS AP on your ActionTec, so some screenshots may be required to help troubleshoot:
Since it's Broadcom MIPS <-> Broadcom MIPS, (although stock firmware to DD-WRT), there should be no issue. I haven't personally dealt with Broadcom WDS so I cannot verify the steps in this wiki under Broadcom Devices - things may have changed to be more suited to the Atheros steps, but this should help clarify some things (or confuse you more!):

Thank you so much for the tips and links. The Peacock listand installation for e1000v2.1, as stated in the OP, were read before posting. Original flash was with 16968, followed by 30-30-30. I then looked for a version of software that was more current and upgraded the dd-wrt to that version. Sorry this wasn't explicitly stated in OP. The issue I'm having is with a WDS implementation. The host router (C1000a) is not causing the repeater issue, since it works without issue with a TPLink extender. The e1000v2 installation thread mentions not going past certain versions if repeater mode is desired. Is WDS not the correct solution for AP repeating to a host?
Where are the config files kept for the K2.6 so one can determine the features possible? Is there a matrix kept each month in a file of the features? Since each month there are new firmware of each supported router, where is the diff or upgrades applied file for each monthly roll-out?
Still getting my bearings on this forum. Thanks again for the tips and links. Cheers.

Is there a decent search function which looks at only the enhancements, or fixes which affect a particular router? The last post in the e1000v2 thread is for a 2013 (10 years old) version of software. I realize this is older hardware, but there is a report of problems with repeater mode on the e1000v2 and limiting the version one should install. I'd like to find out if that issue was resolved in software or is still a hardware limiting issue.
If I search the Broadcom SoC threads, I see an e1000v2 had a v3.0-r44772 applied and working for client bridge. This is a November 2020 release of software. Maybe I'll contact the poster and or try that version to see if my issue is resolved. Thanks again for any further advise.
