Will the reset button still work if the system is broken?

Hi guys. I'm about to write a script to achieve dual WAN failover, but not sure if everything could go smoothly. Just in case if I bricked the device by messing up with the network interface, will the reset button behind the router still function? And in addition, what does it wipe?

I'm having a Netgear R6300V2, but this seems to be a general question of DDWRT.

well if you brick your router ... than this means its software(firmware) is badly corrupt and it wont load at all, very likely to be in either loop mode or kernel panic brick mode..and reset will be a softwware function so it wont load...
than you are left with two(2) options your router may have a TFTP recovery console or you need to connect to it via serial interface.. Laughing

If you only add a script to the router then the reset button should work.

But to prevent unnecessary resets you first try a script from the command line and only after it works you add it to Startup or Firewall or USB

There is some documentation in the wikis e.g.:
https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Dual_WAN_with_failover
https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Dual%2C_Triple_%28and_probably_quad%29_WAN_with_multiple_active_WAN_links_and_source_routing

Bear in mind this Dual_WAN info could be very outdated as it refers to wrt54GLv1.1
and its switch/vlan layout...

So, you have to adjust it to your R6300v2 vlan and switch layout...
in general vlan2 is the WAN and vlan1 is the swtich LAN ports along with the wifi
so if you want really dual lan you may need to create another vlan let say vlan3 related to a switch port..and use it instead and than you will still have x3 LAN ports left

so, as egc said try those commands/script via CLI and than if it works, use either one of the script boxes egc advised you..or it could do as a custom script too...but you have to call it from start up or anywhere else...so its practically the same...

one thing for sure is, Netgear routers have TFTP console(server), so whatever happens you can recover it..but i dont think you will get to there...press reset for 10-12 sec should do..
do not try 30-30-30 rest as this is old procedure for different routers that doesn't play very well any-more
Good luck and please share the light of your results... to me its interesting could be usefull for other members too...Cool
