Can you download anything at https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ ? I got only "404 Not Found".... Smile

Thunderbird has no problem.

Not all directories are 404, e.g. https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/99.0b8/ loaded fine for me and then it died with 404 shortly after a refresh

But then I backtracked to https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/ and it was all fine after that also forced clear the cache just in case.

Then shortly after it was back to 404, so any issues should be reported to them.

Does your Firefox update fine from the internal updater, can you download and install from the main website download page?

I got a copy of old Firefox in my own backup hard disk, and the built-in upgrade worked.

That makes no sense, and the primary mozilla file archive has traditionally always encouraged mirroring of this site.
Fast forward to today everything has migrated to the cloud so modern day CDN or literally content delivery network.

Install an older version of Firefox links Directory of other versions and languages it is now googleusercontent hosted.
Sad enough, they did not update link to reflect current folder structure. https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/

The two below however are hosted on download-installer.cdn.mozilla.net that is amazon cloudfront, pick your poison.

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-esr ESR 102.4.0
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release 106.0.5

Finally, there is https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ which is also on amazon cloudfront, but alternative.

Of course it makes no sense, the proof is in the pudding that its not blocked, if direct access was blocked, there wouldn't be any mixed results between getting file listing and downloading something, then a few seconds later 404 for the same exact dir.

In any case, its quite obvious none knows the cause and just making wild guesses based on conjecture.

The best place to get an answer is contact Mozilla about it.

In the meanwhile just tried again, and it works and seems its staying that way, so looks like they fixed it.

Well we have three cloud mirrors now, download-installer.cdn.mozilla.net has diffrent IPs from archive.mozilla.org. So nobody needs to rely on that old ftp hostname, unless you enjoy rolling the dice with some google data center.

It reminds me of the time that MSC-FE had a network upgrade done around 23-24 years ago and there was a mis-configured router between them and NAVCOMTELSTA Diego Garcia. We couldn't directly send a new email to folks on the island, but they could email us and we could reply just fine. Fun times before everything got standardized to use M$ exchange while some folks were still using Novell GroupWise, others using Lotus Domino/cc:Mail, and God knows what else. Nothing more fun than taking a boat ride ashore to go look at routing tables on Cisco gear that wasn't under my cognizance to verify it wasn't an issue on that end. Fun times back in the day when we were dialing via INMARSAT to send/receive. Can't remember if the modem was 900, 1200, or 2400 baud. Fun times.
