hi all,
I keep getting this message after restarting the router
Your router is currently not protected and uses an unsafe default username and password combination; please change it using the following dialog!
I have tried entering username root and new password, leaving the username field blank and just changing the password, tried different browsers, also tried hitting save and apply settings, but keep coming back to the same password message upon restart, anyone have any ideas why or how to get past it ? thanks in advance.

on reset web interface (GUI) doesnt have default password or username...
so, you have to set those both...please avoid default password as password or any simple one..
set username either root or any other you want, root is too well known...better use another..
Than update to a newer build as this is too old and full of security flaws...
current build is 50814, if you update reset router to defaults and rebuild your settings manually..

Uhm, yes it does.
This sounds like settings are not being saved, which is a result of having flashed XWRT-Vortex modified Asus CFE. Was this router ever flashed with XWRT-Vortex? _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

Ill look into the initial screen user/pass setup page, last I tested it was working fine.
Please ensure that your browser cache is cleared with CTRL + F5 or use a private/incognito tab for DD-WRT, bad cache entries from kong to now will cause all sorts of weirdness.
Also you DO NOT leave any fields empty, you change them both to something not usual as the defaults are not secure.
