in my case requires a double restore.

This has been going on for many builds now. I am on the latest build 50551.
From an earlier backup (of the same f/w build) I need to restore twice to actually get the settings restored.

After the first restore attempt, the router ends up with default settings.
At this point it requires new credentials. I enter ROOT and a temporary password, then restore the same backup a second time.
This time the old settings become valid.

So far so good. It works, but is this the way it is supposed to work? The help text doesn't mention it and nothing about it on the forum, either.

After reset / hard reset, creating a permanent or temporary password doesn't negate having to re-login to navigate away from the info page, etc. This has always been the case. If there is a new regression, then it needs to be investigated and corrected.

I don't usually request a reset when restoring, but the router behaves as if I do.

(A while ago I did do a reset from the CLI and entered all settings from scratch.)

When running 50551 on my spare R7800 I did make a backup of settings.

I restored from this backup and after the router rebooted I had my settings back so no reset to default was happening for me. So I cannot confirm your findings at this moment

Does dmesg shows anything strange?

i recently restored old(previous) config on my R7800 (same build/save file)

try reset rebuild manually and than save and use it... Rolling Eyes

It could be a browser problem ArjenR49, try firefox portable.

Nooooooooooooooo (perform factory defaults, or nvram erase && reboot, before a restore).

I'm sorry. I suspected I did something wrong, but dd-wrt corrected me.

BTW: I never applied for guru status ... I noticed the change a day or so ago, but I don't feel like a guru ...
