I am running two WRT3200ACMs and attempting to enable and join a WDS. I have attempted to follow the dd wrt outlined procedure but it does not appears to be joined when checking the Wireless Status.
a) Do I or should I have to change the Mode to AP (WDS) / Station (WDS).
b) Do I have to use a wlan for dedicated backhaul?
I am running both WRT3200ACMs on DD-WRT v3.0-r50274 std (09/27/22) at this time.
Looking for any help available or procedure to follow.

I have been using WDS for a few years now and have absolutely no problem with it. Both on my 3200's and 1900's. The master 3200 or 1900 is set to AP(WDS) and the clients are set to Station(WDS). The applicable mac addresses as noted in the setup procedure are entered into wlan0-WDS for the 300's and wlan1-WDS for my 1900's.
The only glitch I have ever found is if I want to use a Virtual Interface on the client 3200, the only channel that will work is 100.
Otherwise WDS works great and has never failed me for years now. No special modifications or other in setup. Some older builds did have a problem but that hasn't happened in a very long time.
One thing I would suggest however is that if you have upgraded from an older build it would be advised that you do a full clear and enter setup from scratch. _________________ Starlink & DSL -> TPLink TL-R470T+

and dont touch the wds tab with the static macs at all. this is for a very different protocol. wds ap -> wds sta. thats all nothing else is required

Are you running the 2.4 and 5 GHz both WDS which as I believe you have said in another thread will degrade your throughput by 50%?

The WDS is either-or but not both concurrently. I run all my WDS on 5Ghz since most of my devices are 2.4Ghz. And I have TV connected to the Client 3200 and am able to stream from the Internet even though I am on a very slow connection 7 down & 0.4 up. The WDS connection easily handles the throughput. _________________ Starlink & DSL -> TPLink TL-R470T+

I probably didn't say it clearly. Radios on the client should only have 1 Client(WDS) setup. As for the AP(WDS) there should not be any problem with having both as WDS. Since I have never done much testing with 2.4Ghz WDS I cannot specifically say if there are quirks. As for the 5Ghz AP(WDS) they act as if it were just a regular AP when any device tries to connect. So I must assume that the 2.4Ghz is the same and having it configured as WDS should not present any problems.
You got me curious so I had to verify my comments. Since I don't have any 2.4Ghz devices on my 3200's as they are known to be somewhat erratic, I setup my 1900 with existing 5Ghz AP(WDS) and changed the 2.4Ghz to AP(WDS).
This change did not appear to affect any of my devices, so I now verified my conclusion, just not on a 3200. _________________ Starlink & DSL -> TPLink TL-R470T+
