I have an older Linksys WRT54G wireless router that I have installed DDWRT firmware in to make it a repeater from my main router. I have four IP Cameras connected to it, two wired and two wireless and all work fine except for one wireless one. It works but has very jerky video which I assume is because it is farthest wireless one from the repeater. My question is can you run a wireless camera THROUGH a wireless extender or will it only connect to the extender and not be able to go THROUGH it to my repeater? Thank you for any help.

I think it would depend on which wifi extender you have. I do not work with these extenders often so I would not know which model to recommend.

have you considered using power line network adapterS? you could setup the wrt54g as an access point and then use the power line network adapters to move the wrt54g in the right spot to reach all the cameras.

or just buy another access point and/or power line network adapters if thats not possible.

Most extenders are repeaters, in a sense. They connect via wireless client to the AP and then add another AP that is usually "ssid_ext". Not sure how well extenders work connecting to repeaters, but you also have the option with certain extenders to be connected via ethernet cable to your upstream router or repeater as a wired AP. I have a Linksys RE6300 Range Extender that served as a dual band wired AP for quite a while. It's sitting somewhere collecting dust at the moment.

The power line adapter sounds interesting I might give that a try. The extender I have has no ethernet connection and I can't find even find any option to enter any settings at all for it after install. It does work as far as being able to connect to the router and connecting something to it but there is no way to forward an IP from it or anything else. Maybe I got the wrong extender for what I need it for, i'm not sure if they are all the same or if some do have those options. I have searched the internet high and low and no one had an answer for that question.

Which extender is it? Netgear generally uses www.mywifiext.net for login URL:

https://kb.netgear.com/000060588/How-do-I-log-in-to-my-NETGEAR-WiFi-Range-Extender

https://kb.netgear.com/23517/How-do-I-set-up-my-NETGEAR-WiFi-range-extender

Linksys generally uses 192.168.1.1 or http://RE6x00-xxx / http://RE6x00-xxx.local and sometimes extender.linksys.com:

https://www.linksys.com/support-article?articleNum=137378

https://www.linksys.com/support-article?articleNum=271530

TP-Link uses tplinkrepeater.net or 192.168.0.254:

https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1398/

https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/931/

If it's not one of those three, you should be able to look it up online...

It's none of those, I got it off Amazon and all it has on the box is Dual Band 1200mbps Wireless Repeater Model WF005. It does say on the bottom-(Forwarding of IPv4 based protocols/Address Resolution protocol), Whatever that means I don't know.

Looks as if it is generic multi-brand Chinese gold that probably didn't come with any kind of user manual:

http://www.digitnow.us/WiFi-Range-Extender-24--5GHz-Dual-Band-High-Speed-up-to-1200-Mbps-WiFi-Repeater-Wireless-Signal-Booster-Wide-Coverage-Eliminate-WiFi-Dead-Zones-Support-WPS-1-Button-Setup-with-2-External-Antennas_show160.html

https://www.amazon.com/Extender-3000sq-ft-Wireless-Amplifier-Compatible/dp/B09ZTL3XKZ

Probably would need to sniff your network with Wireshark and/or Wifi Analyzer. I can't find any information on this device. Rolling Eyes

If its already connected to the dd-wrt router, you could check for it there. check on around the unit itself for the mac, write it down, and then go look in your dd-wrt router for it under

Status > LAN > DHCP Clients

once you find the mac address of the device in the dhcp clients list, check for the IP address thats attached to the mac address and then type that same ip address in the in the address bar of your web browser. should take you right to the extenders web gui.

It did come with a so-called manual but all it shows is how to hook it up. I did input the IP and entered it's settings but I find nothing in there to be able to forward anything to my repeater. I will look into that power line item and see if I can use that.
Only problem with that is I have to run the cable 30 ft. to an outlet. So I might as well just run it to my repeater at 80 Ft.
Thank you for all your help.
