hi all
We have a small business with a couple of home offices. For many years, we have been using a DD-WRT router to allow safe access to the servers in the main office by the other home offices. It has worked
very well but now we need to change things and are hoping for some advice. Below is a description of the setup -
Home Office 1 - VDSL2 connection, static IP address (server office)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
1 DSL modem in bridge mode (Huawei, preconfigured by the ISP)
1 DD-WRT router in gateway mode
. cabled to DSL router
. Router Model - Buffalo WHR-HP-G54
. Firmware Version - DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/07/10) std - build 14896
. PPPoE connection
. port forwarding
. iptable rules to restrict incoming RDP and SSH access to known IP address of HomeOffice 2
1 windows server (has incoming RDP connections)
2 unix servers (running mail server, website, etc on the usual ports)
Home Office 2 - VDSL2 connection, VOIP, static IP address
---------------------------------------------------------
1 DSL modem (Huawei, preconfigured by the ISP)
. acting as the gateway
. with VOIP phone
1 nighthawk R8000
. cabled to DSL router
. no special setup, just gives better wireless range
2 laptops
. connecting to windows server using RDP
. connecting to unix servers via SSH
Problem
-------
We need to move all the servers to Home Office 2. We do not want to lose the VOIP connection at Home Office 2, so we cannot put the DSL modem there in bridge mode.
We would like to bring the dd-wrt router to Home Office 2 and place it behind the DSL modem, i.e.
. leave the DSL modem to login to the ISP and handle VOIP
. pass incoming WAN traffic to the dd-wrt router
. have the dd-wrt router apply the port forwarding and fire wall rules (after changing the firewall rules to allow traffic in from Home Office 1)
Is it possible to configure the DD-WRT router to allow this? What are the correct settings for WAN connection type / Router Operating Mode / etc etc? We tried a few combinations during a trial run but could not get internet access.
