When I try to use ISP-provided gateway's MAC address for my personal router, I can't get WAN public IP over DHCP, but all other MAC addresses are accepted. I don't have any Telephony features. ISP-provided gateway uses different MAC's for bridged mode and for router mode, but neither MAC's work for my personal router over WAN. ISP, somehow, can detect whether MAC address is authentic for the device (ISP-provided gateway) or spoofed (for personal router). Any idea how?

Why would you spoof your ISP router's MAC address on your WAN? That doesn't make sense.

Mostly out of curiousity. It should be possible. Some ISP's do not even allow non-ISP routers to be directly connected to WAN and they verify whether it is their router or client's personal router through MAC addresses. In such cases, spoofing ISP router WAN MAC is needed to get public IP from ISP.

You can and should be possible, however not automatically as that grabs the MAC address for the machine connected on the first switch port, but if you enter it manually it should be good.

That is assuming your ISP does lock the internet service to a specific MAC.

But your ISP equipment is likely equipped with tr69 (go google it) and in such case spoofed or not they will know next time they push configuration changes or whatever nonsense to their device and are monitoring responses, DD-WRT has no such thing, so it will fail on their end.

ISP Router MAC (Bridge mode) DD-WRT WAN MAC. If they're both the same, would it grab an IP? You've given part of the explanation as to why it won't and we have seen it fail here. You can try the power down for 5 minutes trick, but I doubt it will work.
