I'm trying to setup this router as a WDS station (not Mikrotik). I set it up using the instructions at https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/WDS_Linked_router_network. It will not connect/associate to the WDS AP. I tried both DD-WRT and VANILLA radio firmware and couldn't connect. The radio appears OK because I can run a site survey and see the WDS AP and I know the transmitter works because I can set the router up as a AP or WDS AP and the other routers in the network sees it. What could be wrong? r49599 firmware
Two R9000 and 4 R7800. All R7800 routers (WDS stations) are connected to the one R9000 operating as a WDS AP. The "new" R9000 won't function as a WDS station.
...
and dont touch the wds tab with the static macs at all. this is for a very different protocol. wds ap -> wds sta. thats all nothing else is required

None of the links solves my problem. The configuration looks OK but I just can't get the R9000 to work as a WDS Station. The WDS AP is an R9000 also so it's not a chipset issue. I originally setup my network to use the wlan0-WDS tab with the MAC addresses and LAN setting - the network was working fine that way but I removed those settings but it didn't fix the problem. Is there a limit to the number of WDS Stations that can connect to one WDS AP?

I have 3 Stations connected to R7800 WDS AP. Had 4 for a while. Works fine. Pretty sure others have far more.
Might think about making backups and swapping places with the 9000's to see if the result is the same.
And try a 7800 as the AP to see how they act.
Just a thought but not sure what it would prove
I just programmed the "new" R9000 to work as the WDS AP and swapped it with the online one and it works. I don't know why it won't work as a WDS Station since the configuration looks good.
