Hi.
I've been using build 47182 since it was released. It works very nice with ac68u but nas does something to the usb disc. It works easily for weeks but eventualy it stops working and does not found in the network. After this Filesharing says that SDA1 is not found but disc tells that SDA1 is mounted. Only way to make nas working again is to connect usb disc to pc and fix the disc with basic windows etc disc tools. Win 11 doesn't tell me what is wrong and what it does fix. But after this nas function works again.

Sounds like you are using NTFS. Use EXT4.

One lazy trick I found to fixing this while it's still installed in the router is to disable the USB Core Support (Services>USB) and reboot. Now the USB drive is no longer mounted & read-only so you can do "fsck /dev/sda1".

Click back the Automatic Drive Mount & reboot.

If you have syslogs enabled you'll also see message during startup that indicates that the USB device has errors. Here's what mine said:

Code:
Apr 16 14:19:04   192.168.1.1 kern crit kernel EXT4-fs error (device sda1): ext4_mb_generate_buddy:756: group 2, block bitmap and bg descriptor inconsistent: 22835 vs 22842 free clusters

Edit: Corrected USB Core Support to Automatic Drive Mount.

I use NTFS just because usb sata adapter doesn't understand EXT. Tried that couple of months ago.
Router is in AP mode. No special functions turned on than usb and nas.

I upload logfiles when this problem occurs again. Good thing is that it will happen again. What I should turn on while it still works ? And where to turn on them. I'm not that good at this.

You can just use mount/umount via terminal no need to disabled usb core support, unless of course those aren't included in your router, but they are included in op's RT-AC68U which is the same as mine.

But OP is using a seriously outdated build, So he should upgrade first http://ftp.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2022/08-15-2022-r49741/asus-rt-ac68u/

Logs are turned on the services tab, and again I advise you to read Broadcom forum FAQ – README for what information to provide and where to get it.

I tried that originally but get:
Code:
# umount /dev/sda1
umount: can't unmount /opt: Resource busy

It's mounted as /opt with Entware and running Dnscrypt.

Edit: Oh... maybe I should "/opt/etc/init.d/rc.unslung stop" and then do the umount? Can't do this now but edit with results later.

Yes, you have to stop Entware, then umount the drive. Do people mount their FTP, Samba, miniDLNA shares as /opt?

Will do. The drive is also mounted via samba to be accessed via PC. As for being mounted as "/opt", I really just followed the Entware install here https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installing_Entware.

Strange, I have another fresh Netgear 7500v2 (Atheros) and installed a USB Drive with nothing on it and tried to umount it to do fsck, and it replied with "Resource Busy". NAS & SAMBA weren't even setup. Had to resort to disabling Automatic Drive Mount and rebooting to give fsck access. What am I missing?

Longshot guess: it's probably partly due to having automount enabled. I have not looked at the associated code in a long time, but that is my initial best guess. So you do not have Proftpd or CIFSD enabled on this device at all? Just USB core and storage support?

You dont have to turn off automount and reboot, Clicking apply will do it.

Also, you can run umount -l /dev/sda1 for instance but Ide do it via terminal and not the commands tab.

The SATA USB Adapter doesnt care what filesystem you use on the drive.

Now, if you plug a drive into Windows that is EXT2/3/4 Windows doesn't understand the filesystem. But you can install Paragon's EXT driver or other 3rd party EXT/2/3/4 drivers Windows side to resolve the issue.

Your favorite search engine is your friend.

@kernel-panic59: No, ProFTP and CIFS are both disabled.

@the-joker: The umount -l /dev/sda1 worked great and didn't need to disable the Automatic Mount. So in the future i'll make sure to cleanly stop Entware and then proceed with the umount, fsck..etc

Thanks to all.

It did work flawesly until today. 2 days ago I turned off the router for a this weekend as I was away. This evening turned it back on and tried the nas. It does not work. This is what is shown on disc info at USB tab:

Disk Space /tmp/mnt/sda1
41%
96.6G / 141.9G

--- /dev/sda
Block device, size 238.5 GiB (256060514304 bytes)
DOS/MBR partition map
Partition 1: 238.5 GiB (256058064896 bytes, 500113408 sectors from 2048)
Type 0x07 (NTFS/HPFS)
Windows BOOTMGR boot loader
NTFS file system
UUID 0E50E04450E033DD
Volume size 238.5 GiB (256058064384 bytes, 500113407 sectors)
/dev/sda not mounted Unsupported Filesystem
--- /dev/sda1
Block device, size 238.5 GiB (256058064896 bytes)
Windows BOOTMGR boot loader
NTFS file system
UUID 0E50E04450E033DD
Volume size 238.5 GiB (256058064384 bytes, 500113407 sectors)
/dev/sda1 mounted to /tmp/mnt/sda1

That can not be right as it is not working. Two times bootmgr and mount that to sda1. I use automount. Disc usage and size is wrong too.
Unmount and remount does not fix it. Windows does not say what is wrong with it. So I can not tell what the chkdsk does to it. Just launched Parted Magic and Partition editor did not find any errors on the disc.

What fixes this is reboot with the disc connected.
