DD-WRT in it's original form was a fork of Sveasoft firmware from Jimmy Ewing, due to the controversy over GPL violations by Mr. Ewing with respect to him asking for money for the source code and other dubious business practices. There are really very little traces of Sveasoft left in current form. Linksys WRT54* GPL'd tarball release to the public begat HyperWRT, which begat Tomato and Sveasoft, among other 3rd party firmware projects. Sveasoft begat DD-WRT. There is also still plenty of controversy around DD-WRT, but haters will always hate, lol.

Going back to the GPIO discussion, the information is out there, it's just not blatantly in black and white and it's tedious as sh.. to find / map the GPIOs to the other bits and pieces. It doesn't necessarily require an NDA. Some manufacturers are a little more forthcoming than others (Netgear, for example). If the community really cared about (all of) these cosmetic issues, then technically apt folks could contribute to solving the mysteries of the deep, so to speak.

Some manufacturers maybe forthcoming rare as they maybe, but most will only lift and lower fingers to type - no, but at least some release the firmware under GPL which anyone with the right skills can study, As for what is closed source, forget it, I dont see anyone rushing to sign NDAs to fix LEDS in DD-WRT, do you?

All you needs are strong reasons to know, some alcoholic drinks and maybe some hot chicks? Meow... Smile

(Music from James Bond, Mission Impossible? Meow...)

It's possible for DR-WRT to access those (classified?) information, the real problem is still whether developer(s) had the time to make it happen. Anyway.... I don't stare at LEDs.

One last joke, Meow...
