Or, could be 192.168.x.x and may be a typo by the OP. I didn't even notice that earlier Embarassed Good catch, PYB!

Changing to a private ip did not fix the problem.

After rectifying ip to private, All 3 ports (port 4,5,6) still share the exact same ip address. It as though port 5,6 are doing exactly the same thing as port 4. Ignoring the configuraton settings to put them on their own bridge and vlan with their own dhcp server.

In the config they are for separated out. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The VLAN info is at the bottom.

Code:
VLAN 1:
ports: 1 2 8t
VLAN 2:
ports: 0 8t
VLAN 3:
ports: 3 8t
VLAN 4:
ports: 4 8t
VLAN 5:
ports: 5 8t
VLAN 6:
ports: 7 8t

Port 8 is where the switch is connected to the router. "t" is tagged.

Hi Guys, even as this is an old post, i found something on a R8500 reviews that maybe helps.

https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-reviews/netgear-r8500-nighthawk-x8-smart-wifi-router-reviewed/

There they said: Examining the PCB traces reveals the WAN and LAN ports 1, 2 and 3 connect to the BCM4709C0KFEBG’s internal switch, while ports 4,5 and 6 connect to a Broadcom BCM53125 7 port Gigabit switch. The second switch chip connects to the CPU via an RGMII port, which basically provides a 1 Gbps uplink port between the two switches.

What maybe helps to understand why all configs that you set for port 4, happens on port 5 and 6 too. As i understand you can change switch config for port 1,2,3 and 4, but 5 and 6 works exactly like 4.

Nevertheless, latest firmware will show all the six ports for sure.

Regards,

thanks for the reply, that is interesting.

i will get this router back out and start experimenting with it again. I switched to a r7800 for the time being. but i'd like to make the r8500 work at some point
