I have a ddwrt configured VPN router - Linksys WRT1900ACS.I have searched the forums on mounting the usb drive to the router.

I can not access the files and folders in the drive via laptop or on smart tv. They are movie recordings as .ts FILES and avi?
For example my samsung smart tv is connected to my vpn router but can not see the files?

Is the usb drive visible on the LAN from the router?

once you are on vpn, the router has to be on that vpn lan, then you tunnel the tv's traffic through it and it should find it.

Enter UUID 34E6D878E6D83BB4 and mount it as "opt"

Enter the share as \router_IP\opt

Otherwise the path may change among reboots.

Note: NTFS is not the best file system to use.

what Per Yngve Berg said... you probably will need to use the router vpn LAN address, not its public

USB is fine. despite what it looks like, drive is indeed mounted. But I would recommend converting the drive to ext4 later on. Yes, you can still access it from a windows computer.

in NAS, go to file sharing, click on add share, and fill in the blanks.

adding users is optional.

you can also try settting up minidlna.

Thanks everyone I got it working.

only problem is when accessing the recording on my usb drive via my samsung smart tv i see
the icon DDWRT.
I click on that and see sda1 rather then going into my movie folders?
I also see folder that I dont wany visable like:
Recycle bin
Lost.Dir
Nevda shield
system volune info
Android

can these system folders be hidden or deleted?

when clinking on ddwrt icon I only want to see movie folders like KIDS, WESTERNS, JAMES BOND ETC

You have to create those directories in the drive. look at my minidlna setup as an example.

the path would be the drive selected. Sub-directory are folders already in the drive.

PATH >> /tmp/mnt

SUB-DIRECTORIES >> /Videos/Anime

So create the directories first and then point samba/minidlna to those specific folders. that way, the device you are using to access (wahtever) will only show that and not the root directory.

Just a reminder, when using miniDLNA, it recommends JFFS2 to be enabled, else the database is stored in RAM and regenerated at every reboot, the bigger the database the longer and slower it will be and even slower on slower devices. The built in help on the page will explain this and alert you to the fact.

From the looks of what I read about it, it saves it on the routers flash chip?

If thats the case, OP here can either partition his NAS with a JFFS partition or label the partition on a USB flash drive and use that, correct?

In short, yes. Information was a little tricky to find, and these are old posts, but should still apply to current releases:

MiniDLNA setup help

trying to edit minidlna.conf
