Can someone please help me I have worked the last 10 hours on this. I have tried the TP link web upload and also ttfp. I was able to get the router to an earlier version than what was originally on it but have had no luck. I have tried several different builds and none have worked, some make to lights blink and others do not blink. I am new to this so I am asking for help.

You should be able to flash r37961 factory-to-ddwrt.bin <-click link to download
and upgrade to the current r49567 tplink_archer-c7-v5.bin <-click link to download
if not flashing the r49567 factory-to-ddwrt.bin <-click link to download
directly from the TP-Link webUI.

You may want to use the recommended Firefox ESR portable or Pale Moon portable or
Waterfox Classic browser for flashing. Keep in mind that there may be a webUI upgrade
issue with DD-WRT in the older release above.

Thanks for your help.
I did finally get it to load but only after going through my VPN, no idea why but that's what did it.
I still can not get the wireless to work, it shows up but no internet when connected. I don't know if it is a setting or something else.
any ideas I would appreciate it

If the LAN IP address or access IP address of the upstream router is the same as DD-WRT default, then you have to change LAN IP address of DD-WRT. I can't see your network topology or configurations from my side of the screen, so it would be helpful if you were a little more descriptive and added applicable information and screenshots for us to visualize the problem. And I'm not sure what the scenario is with the VPN being involved here, but it sounds like there is a non-standard edge-case situation afoot. Connected directly to LAN ethernet port of the router shouldn't have required much of anything to flash DD-WRT.
