I have two Linksys EA6900 configured with dd-wrt firmware v3.0-r42410. Both WIFI work continuously with OpenVPN client installed, but every time there are power outages, WIFI connection is lost when power comes back on. LAN connection are still working after power outages.

I have to disable Open VPN client, reboot the router and then re-enable the OpenVPN client to get back the WIFI.

With the VPN disable, I have no connection issues with the WIFI when there are power outages.

Is this the normal way of restarting the router with VPN every time there is a power outage?

Thank you.

I will transfer your thread to the appropriate forum as it can be of interest to us all.

You are running an old and outdated build, recent build is 49531.

It is strongly recommended to update.
After update reset to defaults and put settings in manually never restore froma backup (to a different build that is)

If power outages (and/or surges) are common, might not be a bad idea to get one of those cheap, smaller UPS units for the modem, router, etc., to tide you over until the power returns.

egc: Problem still exits after the upgrade. Will have to read further on the sticky about OpenVPN. Hopefully, the VPN provider is going to include Wireguard configuration and maybe that will helps out.

eibgrad: Will think of a UPS in the future if power outages persist. Could be newbies working at the Power Utilities as most of the baby boomers are retired now and that is why so many outages now.

Thanks.

Check your configuration.

For most providers there are instructions in the OpenVPN Client guide.

It can be due to setting DNS servers from the provider.
What provider do you use?

If you cannot get it to work show screenshots of OpenVPN settings with everything you put in additional config, screenshot of OpenVPN status page (whole page) and syslog ( cat /var/log/messages ) preferably when working and after a reboot when it is not working
