One other problem with the R7000P, on the 5 GHz band in the United States, is you choose to select a channel instead of Auto you only get one choice based upon the Extension Channel (80 Mhz channel width).

The workaround for that has always been:
Code:
nvram set brcm_unlock=1
nvram commit
reboot

But this is something that will never be changed. Channels available will *always* follow regulatory domain information for the wifi hardware.

With my R6300v1 router running DD-WRT I had multiple choices on the 5G GHz band. Also, with the stock Netgear R7000P firmware, I also had multiple choices.

if an R7000P has low 5 GHz channels it's because the user did an nvram erase on a modified build from years ago and hasn't done a nvram erase since. the modified build somehow made the low channels work with an nvram commit(s)

i use 161 so it doesn't affect me.

I'm very appreciative the vap now works

I just switched to DD-WRT from stock firmware about a week ago. I did two nvram erase procedures. Before switching to DD-WRT firmware and the after switching to the DD-WRT firmware. That did not resolve the problem. The only choice I had was Channel 149 with lower lower. Using kernel-panic69 solution worked, but it should not be necessary.

I now have channels 100, 116, 132 and 149 available using lower lower.

MIPS vs ARM, most likely a different hardware / driver / specs / regulatory domain info, unless this anomaly was due to the same issue that affected the VAPs (which I highly doubt).

Anyhow, not a new discussion on R7000P regarding 5GHz channels: Missing lower 5Ghz channels on netgear 7000p

My older Netgear R6300v1 which WiFi is configured similar to the R7000P has the following 5 GHz channels for lower lower: 36, 52, 100, 132 and 149. Since they are both AC capable routers with an 80 MHz channel width, they should have the same frequencies available (United States). Again, the R7000P only has channel 149 for lower lower.

Marking thread as solved, the other issues are irrelevant for the now working 5 GHz VAP.

i just can tell you that i wont see lower channels on mine too. but this is how the driver reports them. however. of course its possible to get lower channels by some nvram hacks. but i have to check which parameters are involved here. its all complicated

nvram set 1:disband5grp=0
nvram commit
reboot
then you should get all channels

i will include this mod in next release. but its not included in todays release of course. but todays release contains also other fixes which are not available in the test image i provided here

On my R7000P using lower lower I now have channels 36, 52, 100, 142 and 149.

Thank you, BS, for your diligence and brilliant work!!!
