I followed the wiki instructions (I think). After I make and apply the changes, I can't access the router using the updated or the old router IP. I have unplugged the router, unplugged the ethernet cord. I then reset the router to the defaults using the reset button. I then can access the router using the old IP.

My primary router is Xfinity's Xfi. It uses a 10.0.0.x IP address system. Netgear uses 192.168.1.x.

I cannot access the router if I change my computer's IP to a static IP using the 192.168.1.x address format. Should I be using the 10.0.0.x format?

Also I do not have a manual gateway option in the Wireless, Basic Settings page.

This shouldn't be this difficult. I am sure I am missing something that will be obvious to those of you better skilled than I.

Please be kind to the noobie.

Thank you.[/quote]

Welcome to the forum Smile

The General Questions forum is not the right forum to ask for router help, no problem as I will transfer this thread to the appropriate Broadcom forum.

See the forum guidelines with helpful pointers about how to research your router, where and what firmware to download, where and how to post and many other helpful tips:

Start with telling us the buildnumber you are using.

Could also be that your client PC is needing to have a proper static IP or set to DHCP on the appropriate interface.

My router is version 1.

The files I downloaded and installed are these: dd.wrt.v24-44715_NEWD-2_Ks.x_giga-WNDR4500.chk and .bin. These are listed in the router database for my router.

I followed the wiki instructions with the exceptions noted in my first post.

I thank you for and appreciate your responses.

That is an old and outdated build with security issues.

Current build is 49268.

See the link to the forum guidelines in my earlier post.

*After* update reset to defaults and put settings in manually, never restore from a backup (to a different build)

I updated the firmware as reported in the posts. I followed the wiki's installation and setup instructions. I cannot access the router using either the new IP or the default IP. The firmware updated correctly.

My browser reports that neither the 192 based IP nor the 10 based IP that I changed the router to is reachable. ERR_Address_Unreachable. This after I made the changes per the wiki instructions. I can access the router before I make any changes to the firmware.

In the updated firmware there is no option for a client bridge. The only option close is a station bridge. The other options are AP, Station, Repeater, Repeater Bridge, and Ad-Hoc.

I have updated, rebooted, reset the router. I can't get anywhere. Until I reset the router, it is a paperweight.

Should the bridged router show up as a connected device in my primary router? It does not display as a connected device in my primary router. The MAC address for the ethernet card in the computer I am using to access the router does report as a connected device.

I am open to any ideas.

Thank you, again.

Yes, the option is now Station Bridge, which was discovered in the second link I posted in my first comment:

Could my issue be that the channels for 2.5 and 5.0 wireless on the wireless bridge and my primary router don't match?

Xfinity doesn't allow us mere mortals to change the channel on its routers.

I would like to get this work, but the simple solution may be to purchase a router that is wireless bridge capable and toss the WDNR aside.

Thank you.

It is quite possible that either your Xfinity or WNDR do not play well together, Wireless bridges are a hack and can work if you are lucky.

Attached my notes but I have a feeling you are out of luck.

Maybe try Station instead of Station Bridge, the router is then on its own subnet and the radio is just acting as WAN.

This is a more robust solution but of course has its own drawbacks

You shouldn't need to change the channels on Station Bridge mode; in the former Client Bridge / Client Bridge (Routed) modes, you could leave the channel in Auto without consequence. I don't think that has changed. But, Xfinity does seem to be quirky.
