I have a 5 TB external Seagate portable (meaning no separate power connector) drive. Since it draws its power from USB, is it okay to plug into the 1900ACv1 router and use for NAS?
Thanks, Rick
I believe people have said you will need external power for a spinning drive. 1 way to do this would be a powered USB hub. A non-mechanical drive (thumb drive) works fine just using power from the router. I ran a NAS setup on my 1900v1 that way for quite awhile. _________________ Wrt1900acv1 r43028
I've had a lot of luck with 2.5" drives. Mechanical and SSD. It's all about how much power it draws. That being said, the important thing to know is that you'll have to partition the drive for ext4 to use it unless you install FAT support on your router.
