Hello,

I am looking to upgrade my routers, i currently have 3 Buffalo1750DHP/D but i would like to know if there are any DDWRT supported routers that use any of the various versions of kernel 5 or are the various kernel 4 versions the current limit?

There are no kernel 5 supported routers in DD-WRT.

All current 4.X.X kernels are still maintained and receive security updates where applicable as well as regular updates.

Upgrade wise, what matters for security and other updates, patches, fixes, drivers, libraries and other DD-WRT components is using the very latest DD-WRT release.

Currently http://ftp.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2022/05-26-2022-r48971/ is the very latest which also includes the latest OpenSSL which patches a known CVE amongst other improvements.

Since you did not state your current DD-WRT version, I will assume you are using some outdated unsupported build, and in such cases, you should upgrade to latest build ASAP and after the fact open a terminal and type nvram reset && reboot and reconfigure routers from scratch to ensure no gremlins left behind.

Thank you for the reply.

I am currently using r48810 and did a fresh configuration after a nvram erase reboot via the Administration/Management/Commands Command Shell on r48208. I will do another nvram erase reboot and fresh configuration after r48971.

Please dont run those commands via the admin tab -> commands

Its not a good idea, if it were down to me I would remove that crap, its buggy like hell.

I remember Kong saying, for an earlier version, that the confusion around it was that there are 2 ways to clear nvram, 1st, nvram erase and 2nd, erase nvram and that they clear nvram differently. Not sure if that holds true for these newer versions.

However i will follow your advise, thanks.

Yes, dont run erase nvram EVER. Unless your router is an ancient dinosaur running some 2007 firmware.

But NONE of any such commands should be ran from the UI commands tab, if you want to reset router to default via UI us the Administration tab -> Factory defaults Tab.

If you want to run commands like that and many others, use SSH or Telnet.

And that's all I will say about that. Wink

I think the confusion is how to run commands from that tab, not that you shouldn't do it. I will have to break out one of the non-production devices to see if there is a regression, but I'm highly doubtful as I haven't seen any commits that would've broken it.

This function has been buggy for a long time, no commits have addressed any of it's issues recently for sure.

I was trying to advise caution instead of throwing all caution to the wind, but its not my router so I don't care.

@the_joker i understand what you meant and @kernel-panic69 is correct too but i remember Kong saying back in 2018/2019 that the confusion is which of the erase commands does what and where but from then to now it may have changed or may not. I will check too and see what i get.

I have never seen BrainSlayer disagree about this but here is what was said at that time.

If anything has changed I am not aware of it.

I was in NO way referring to what commands to enter but how to enter them successfully to run commands from that page when clicking "run commands". There was an outstanding ticket that I closed because the problem was with how the commands were entered, not the expected output. This is not a new topic Rolling Eyes

What I'm talking about has nothing to do with what kong said or not said, it totally unrelated.

However I dont care what you do or if you kill your router in the process, I just dont think its wise to use critical commands in the UI, it has nothing to do with how commands are entered or any tickets on trac or kong or anyone else from some distant past.

I know the command input via UI is buggy not all commands work the same way as they would in a terminal and some results are not anything like a real terminal, to what extent and which commands is unknown as I'm not willing to risk killing my production router to test, I advise against using the UI for critical commands. But what you want to do or what others think about that, matters zero to me. I know what I know, it's proven, I dont need validation, feedback or confirmation, and the rest is just hot air.
