I found when I bricked my R6300 using Telnet, I loaded the original Netgear firmware and then did another 30/30/30 reset. From the Netgear firmware, I was then able to load the DD-WRT firmware.

Again please stop doing 30/30/30 resets on Broadcom ARM and please do not recommend it to anyone. this 30/30/30 resets are AFAIK for Atheros based hardware.
Running nvram reset via terminal or pressing the routers reset button until power LED flashes or using the UI Factory defaults tab are enough and the current recommended methods.

It nowhere says do 30/30/30 resets on this device, it specifically gives you the instructions to hold reset button for 20 seconds until power light flashes, which is same for all Broadcom give or take 10 seconds.
The manufactures website says the same only 7 seconds not 20 which is around the time expected to trigger the reset on ANY Broadcom even dd-wrt give or take 3 seconds.

I found the 20 second reset works with the Netgear firmware, but when I tried it with the DD-WRT firmware it did not always work. So far with the R6300v1 the 30-30-30 reset seems to be effective. It is probably overkill but for me it does the job.
Thank you, BS and the other developers, for all the work you have put in maintaining so many routers!

20-second reset button until the power light flashes invokes TFTP on Netgear, AFAIK. You do NOT do a 30-30-30 on Broadcom ARM or you risk bricking it or getting stuck in a bootloop. And you do NOT do a 30-30-30 on Atheros, either. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

On the R6300v1 (MIPS) with the DD-WRT firmware the power light does not work. I tried the solutions about putting on the led lights and can get the Netgear name to light up - for me that's good enough.

Well, at least you can recover the router if you bork it, just I still maintain that 30/30/30 shouldn't just be thrown about as any kind of solution to everyone who will listen and likely doesn't have any experience in recovering (or flashing via serial if it came to) in the eventuality of total crap hits the fan.
From following the issues surrounding the r9000 and missing UI bits for instance each person found a different way to get it working and what worked for one didnt really seem to work for the other. and some still stuck with it an nothing works for them.

I just discovered I may be doing the 30-30-30 reset incorrectly. The way it should be done is:
- With the router plugged in and powered on, depress the reset button for 30 seconds. This button is usually a tiny dot recessed into the back of the router. You may need a jeweler's screwdriver or a bent paperclip to access it.
- While still holding down the button, unplug the router from its power source for another 30 seconds.
- With the reset button still held down, turn the power back on and hold for another 30 seconds.
I never unplugged the router. I just put the power button in the off position for 30 seconds while still pressing the reset.
I knew I should have looked at the hardware info on wikidevi. @PaulGo: Your router has a MIPSR2. 30-30-30 isn't required, but feel free to continue doing whatever you feel works.
the 30/30/30 is an ancient relic of early WRT54G days. If you backpack into remote prehistoric caves on the outskirts of Dresden in Germany, you can still find "30/30/30" carved into the stone with bone fragments.

I just tried the Netgear recommended 20 second reset with the DD-WRT firmware. It does work correctly with the Netgear firmware, but not with the DD-WRT firmware. After the 20 second reset, it brings up the new log-in screen, and after I put in my now password when I go to look at various pages (not changing anything) I lose the GUI. I still have full internet access. Firefox brings up the following message:
The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
The only way to get a stable GUI which I can look at various pages within the DD-WRT menu is a 30-30-30 reset. Since somewhere in early December I have some problems with GUI where if I make multiple changes I have the same problems with the GUI. Power cycling the router does not restore the GUI only a 30-30-30 reset works.
This problem may be unique to the R6300v1 and since I have found a stable configuration I can live with it.
