I have an internet connected wifi modem/router given to me by the ISP with SSID "WifiMain" and IP address 192.168.1.1 (the router settings are pretty locked down, I can't do much to it).

All the computers connected to WifiMain either use DHCP and static IP in the range 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.255.

I want to connect an Asus RT-N12 D1 [Broadcom] (patched with dd-wrt) in another room as a range extender with wifi and wired connections to it such that:

- The Asus will have SSID "WifiAsus". The wired and wireless connections will use DHCP and static IP to connect to it.

- The computers connected to WifiAsus are in their own private network.

What are the settings I have to apply to WifiAsus (both DHCP and static IP variations) and to the static IP computers on the WifiAsus side to get this sort of thing to work?

Also, my ISP uses crappy advertisement showing pages on DNS failure. What I'd like to do is set the DNS servers on WifiAsus to opendns and if a computer uses WifiAsus as a DNS server, it will use opendns instead of using WifiMain's DNS.

It would be much easier with a dual-band router. You'll probably have to use client mode on your wireless interface and then create a VAP and bridge it to br0 If you plan on using any of the adblocking features of DD-WRT.

Consider using repeater:
