I've got a Linksys E3000 that I'd like to turn into a Wireguard VPN client. Except I can't find a version of DD-WRT that doesn't brick the e3000 AND contains Wireguard.

I've bricked and un-bricked it a bunch of times now by shoring the NVRAM pins 8&9 and uploading with TFTP2. So far, dd-wrt.v24-44715_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega-nv60k.bin is the newest working version I've found, but alas, no Wireguard.

Is there a new(er) working version anyone can recommend?

Moreover, what's the current best way to find the most current version of the firmware that works on any given router?

Alternately, can I install Wireguard into a working non-Wireguard version of DD-WRT? If so, how?

Thanks!

The forum guidelines full of helpful tips will tell you where to download builds:
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=324087

The WireGuard documentation will tell you that the minimum kernel version is 3.10. And that it is thus not available on k2.6 builds:
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=327397

So your current build is outdated with the wrong kernel version.

*After* upgrading reset to defaults and put settings in manually, never restore a backup to a different build

http://ftp.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2022/05-23-2022-r48954/broadcom_K3X/

Thats where the recent K3 builds are.

https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_E3000 which states the right procedure to get the K3.x upgrade

IF that how to still applies needs http://ftp.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2013/05-27-2013-r21676/broadcom_K3X-EXPERIMENTAL/dd-wrt.v24-21676_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-nv60k.bin and then the newer version

http://ftp.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2022/05-23-2022-r48954/broadcom_K3X/

Op is like everyone else using the outdated router database.

DO NOT USE THE ROUTER DATABASE

IDK if that wiki page is correct enough or if you can go from dd-wrt.v24-21676_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-nv60k.bin to 05-23-2022-r48954/broadcom_K3X/

Wait for advice with people who have experience with this dinosaur

If you follow the wiki with those EXACT builds that I stated in section 4.3...you can upgrade to K3.X....then you can load the latest Broadcom K3 build for Mega (I used the mega.bin build...not a trailed build)....I just shut my E3000 down (retired) 2 months ago...so up until that point the K3 Mega build still flashed and it worked fine.

I went direct from factory to r50927 mega (11/21/22):

dd-wrt.v24-50927_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-e3000.bin 21-Nov-2022 04:05 7668736

Have been using OVPN and WG with no issues. It does have a longer reboot time than E2500's.
