Hello,

Have recently flashed WNDR4000 use as an access point, following these instructions:

All went according to plan but don't seem to be able to connect to wl1 (stated as Wireless Interface wl1 [2.4 GHz/5 GHz] - Max Vaps(16)).

states:

WLAN Support a/b/g/n

Am am light years from any expertise in this stuff so if I've overlooked something obvious apologies in advance. Have (randomly) tried to change settings with the expected results. Am beginning the think the issue might be intrinsic with the hardware, not dd-wrt.

Try changing ACK timing to 1350, channel to one of the non-DFS channels.

Made those changes - no luck. The 5G SSID will fleetingly appear in the wireless menu (both laptop and mobile phone), with one or no bars, and then disappear again (this was also occurring before).

Have tried increasing tx power, but that also does not appear to make a difference.

One item to note is that I am in australia, have used both that and US for Regulatory Domain, also with no change to outcome.

Are there any logs or the like I can provide that might assist tracking down issue?

I have had trouble using Wireless Network Mode NA-Mixed.
Using Mixed fixed my problems.

The only other suggestion(s) I can make, given the age of the router, is to check/replace the filter capacitors on the SoC board and replace the AC power adapter.

thanks both - won't get into cap replacement, skills and time limited. Will over the weekend try an earlier version as recommended in the wiki (r38060 K3X); if that works I'll revert.

Bushant - tried the mixed mode - and many variations, but no improvement.

I have reflashed with r38060 and both wireless connections now work - did twice over and got same results both times, so am concluding something has been modified subsequent to that build that is not compatible with the wndr4000.

Happy to leave as is; let me know if I need to be reporting this anywhere else.

It would be nice to know at precisely what build that the 5GHz radio stopped working. There's over 10k commits to the development of DD-WRT to sift through to find that needle in the haystack. System logs, dmesg, serial log would probably help... I can contact BrainSlayer and link this thread, but I guarantee you he will want you to step forward through the builds to see where it broke if he can't magically find the issue right away.

Incremental flash upgrades until the 5GHz stops working would be the way to go.
Keep in mind that at some point the K3x builds went from a 3.10.x kernel to 4.4.x
and that swconfig support was added, which may require a hard reset. What would
be helpful is screenshots of basic and advanced wireless settings; output of the
following via telnet / ssh with syslogd and klogd enabled under the services tab:

Ok - have jumped to v46640 and confirmed that both wireless modes look ok (although there does appear to be an issue with using the WAN port - I won't dwell on that for now). I used dd-wrt.v24-46640_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-WNDR4000 rather than the nv64k version (not sure which is the preferred build so will stick with the WNDR4000 for now).

Yep, have come full circle:
dd-wrt.v24-48255_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-WNDR4000 - working ok.

About the only thing that make me hesitate from saying this is 100% user error is I have two WNDR4000 units, and both exhibited the exact same behavior when originally flashed with 48255 - how that is now not the case I can't speculate.
